North Carolina Haywood County Detention Center | Waynesville, NC
This Isn't Your Average Clinical Role.
If you've spent time in traditional healthcare settings wondering whether your work truly matters — whether the patients who need you most are actually being reached — correctional healthcare might be exactly what you've been looking for.
At IMS Correctional Healthcare, we believe that quality medical care doesn't stop at the jailhouse door. We serve county and municipal correctional facilities across North Carolina, and we do it differently: with genuine transparency, relentless communication, and a commitment to clinical outcomes that goes well beyond the minimum standard. Our patients are often the most medically underserved people in the state. The work is challenging. It's also some of the most meaningful you'll ever do.
We're looking for a CMA to join our team at Haywood County Detention Center in Waynesville
What You'll Do
You'll serve as a frontline healthcare provider embedded in the facility, working alongside IMS's supervising physician and correctional staff to deliver care that is thorough, compassionate, and clinically sound. Your day-to-day will include:
- Preventative health assessments, screenings, and immunizations
- Chronic care management, sick call, and urgent care services
- Clear, accurate progress notes and discharge summaries
- On-call phone triage support for facility clinical and correctional staff
- Regular consultation with your supervising physician
- Serving as a trusted educational resource for detention center staff on medical requirements and protocols
As the IMS team grows in your region, you may also take on a mentorship role — training and supporting newer clinical staff to uphold the standards of care our facilities and patients depend on.
Who You Are
You're a CMA in North Carolina who isn't afraid of a nontraditional environment. You communicate clearly and consistently — with patients, with colleagues, with facility staff. You understand that in this setting, strong relationships and mutual trust aren't soft skills. They're how good medicine gets done.
Requirements:
- Current CPR certification
- Active CMA License
- Prior correctional or detention facility experience preferred
- Ability to commute to Greenville, NC
What IMS Offers:
- Full benefits package: Medical, dental, vision, life insurance
- 401(k) with matching
- Paid time off and flexible scheduling where applicable
North Carolina Is Where We Work. It's Also Who We Are.
IMS was built to serve the counties and communities of this state — not as a distant corporate contractor, but as a true partner to the facilities and patients we serve. Eastern North Carolina has real healthcare needs and real people behind them. If you're ready to show up for both, we want to hear from you.

CMA – Corrections Nursing (Full Time) Haywood County Detention Center | Waynesville, NC
Good Nursing Is Good Nursing — No Matter Where It Happens.
Some of the most skilled, most dedicated nurses we know found their calling in a place most people overlook: inside the walls of a county detention center. The work is demanding. The patients are complicated. And the difference a compassionate, competent nurse makes here is felt in ways that are hard to put into words.
At IMS Correctional Healthcare, we've built our reputation on a simple belief — that every patient deserves to be treated with professionalism, dignity, and genuine care. We partner with county facilities across North Carolina, and we hold ourselves to a higher standard than the contract requires. If you're a nurse who takes that same approach to your work, you'll fit right in here.
We're hiring a full-time, CMA to join our team at Haywood County Detention Center in Waynesville — a community-rooted facility where your presence will be felt every single shift.
What You'll Do
You'll be a consistent, trusted presence for patients who often have limited access to healthcare outside these walls. Your responsibilities will include:
- Chronic care management, sick call, and urgent care services
- On-site treatment and proper emergency response protocols
- Clear, accurate progress notes and discharge summaries
- Serving as a knowledgeable resource for correctional staff on medical requirements and restrictions
- Upholding patient confidentiality, facility protocols, and the highest standards of professional conduct at all times
Every interaction — with patients, with correctional staff, with your IMS colleagues — is an opportunity to demonstrate what good medicine and good character look like side by side.
Who You Are
You hold a current CMA in North Carolina, and you bring more than just clinical competence to the job. You're steady under pressure. You communicate clearly and respectfully across different environments. You treat every patient as a person first — because at IMS, that's not optional, it's foundational.
Prior correctional experience is a plus, but it's not required. What matters most is your commitment to ethical, compassionate care and your willingness to show up fully in a nontraditional setting.
Requirements:
CMA licensure in North Carolina
Current CPR certification
Correctional or detention facility experience preferred, not required
