Senior Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Location: Waynesville, NC (In-Office)

Job Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to join our team in Waynesville, NC. If you are looking to balance a rewarding career with the quality of life that the Western North Carolina mountains offer, this role is designed for you.

In this position, you will manage a varied portfolio of tax clients, oversee bookkeeping services, and provide guidance to our support staff. We pride ourselves on offering a supportive work environment, complete with a 4-day work week during the off-season so you can enjoy everything the region has to offer.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation & Review: Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns, including Business (1120, 1120-S, 1065), Personal (1040), Trusts & Estates (1041), and Exempt Organizations (990).
Accounting & Bookkeeping: Manage and oversee client bookkeeping, month-end closes, financial statement preparation, and general ledger reconciliations.
Team Leadership: Supervise, review the work of, and mentor junior accountants and support staff to maintain quality control and accuracy.
Client Advisory: Provide year-round tax planning, strategic consulting, and clear communication to a broad client base.
Tax Notice Resolution: Represent and assist clients with IRS and state tax authority inquiries and notices.

Qualifications & Experience

Certification: Active CPA license (North Carolina or eligibility for reciprocity required).
Experience: 7–10+ years of progressive public accounting experience.
Tax Expertise: Strong, direct experience handling business entity taxes, personal returns, trust/estate filings, and non-profit tax compliance.
Bookkeeping Mastery: Proficient in QuickBooks (Desktop and Online) and standard tax software platforms.
Leadership: Proven ability to direct work, provide constructive feedback, and lead staff effectively.

Work Schedule & Work-Life Balance

We believe in working hard when our clients need us most and stepping back when they don't:

Busy Season (5-Day Schedule): February, March, April, and August, September, October.
Off-Season (4-Day Schedule): Enjoy standard 4-day work weeks during May, June, July, and November, December, January.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $110,000 – $125,000 / year, commensurate with experience.
Bonus Incentive: Performance/productivity-based bonus structure that directly rewards output and client success.
Insurance: Comprehensive Health, Dental, and Vision coverage.
Paid Time Off: 2 weeks of paid vacation to start, plus standard company holidays.
Schedule Flexibility: Enjoy a true 4-day work week for half the year.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
