In the fall of 2025, we opened a brand-new elementary school building, marking the completion of our expansion to a full K–12 program serving over 2,200 students. This growth will make Esperanza Academy the second-largest single charter school in Philadelphia, reinforcing our commitment to delivering high-quality education to even more students in our city.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Esperanza Academy Charter School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Behavior Interventionist to support the social-emotional and behavioral development of students within our elementary school program. This role is essential in creating a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive.

The Behavior Interventionist will work closely with school leadership, teachers, special education staff, and families to provide targeted behavioral support to students who require additional intervention. This includes implementing behavior plans, supporting students with self-regulation, and using proactive, data-driven strategies to reduce behavioral barriers to learning.

The ideal candidate is patient, consistent, and solutions-oriented, with a strong ability to build relationships with young students and respond effectively to challenging behaviors using restorative and trauma-informed practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Behavior Support

Provide direct behavioral support to students individually and in small groups
Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and support IEP-aligned behavioral goals
Model and reinforce positive behavior and social-emotional skills
Support students during high-need times (transitions, lunch, recess, arrival/dismissal)

Intervention & De-escalation

Respond to behavioral incidents and de-escalate situations using calm, restorative approaches
Facilitate reflection, problem-solving, and re-entry conversations with students
Teach coping strategies, self-regulation skills, and conflict resolution techniques
Support crisis intervention when necessary in alignment with school protocols

Collaboration & Staff Support

Partner with teachers to implement consistent classroom management strategies
Collaborate with counselors, special education staff, and leadership to support student needs
Participate in student support meetings, IEP meetings, and behavior review meetings
Provide guidance and modeling for staff on effective behavior strategies

Family Communication & Engagement

Communicate with families regarding student behavior in a professional and supportive manner
Partner with families to reinforce behavior strategies at home
Participate in conferences and meetings as needed

Data & Documentation

Track, monitor, and document student behavior and intervention progress
Maintain accurate and confidential records aligned with school and compliance expectations
Analyze data to inform interventions and adjust supports as needed

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

Bachelor’s degree preferred (Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field)
Experience working with elementary-aged students, particularly those with behavioral needs
Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies, PBIS, restorative practices, and/or trauma-informed care
Experience working with students with IEPs or in special education settings preferred
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations
Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
