Company Overview
The Krupnick Approach was founded by Dr. Joseph Krupnick in 2016. We are a youth-focused, fast-paced, and dynamic tutoring firm that aims to personalize programs and maximize results for our students while providing a flexible and rewarding working relationship for the best tutors in the industry. Our firm takes a team approach to standardized test prep, with tutors specializing in English, Reading, Math, or Science, or a combination of 1-3 of these. Specializing allows our tutors to develop real depth in the subjects they know best rather than spreading themselves thin across an entire exam, and because so much of our tutoring is virtual, it also means that a student anywhere in the country can work with a genuine subject expert rather than whoever happens to be available locally.
We do not require or provide a comprehensive curriculum for tutors to work from, but rather hope to work with experienced tutors with their own approach and style, given proven effectiveness. We evaluate tutors on the results their students achieve, and we run the numbers on every official score report that comes back, which is precisely what allows us to leave pedagogy and approach up to the tutor. Tutors working on the same subjects are welcome and encouraged, though not required, to collaborate on best practices in team meetings and one-on-one. Our goal is to provide talented and dedicated tutors with the infrastructure and resources necessary to focus on providing high quality instruction and reliable results for their students using their own proven methods and expertise.

Position Overview
The Krupnick Approach is currently and actively seeking experienced and motivated ACT/SAT Tutors in all subjects. We are especially seeking subject-level experts in 1-2 subjects across both exams. This posting is for tutors who are able to hold at least some sessions in person at our downtown Chicago offices, though the majority of sessions for most of our tutors are held virtually.
Tutors meet with students online (via Zoom) or in our downtown Chicago offices, assign homework between each session, and tailor each lesson to the student's most recent homework and mock test results. Upon assignment, they are provided with a program specification document for each new student, which provides all relevant program details: baseline exam scores, the tutor team assigned, scheduling parameters, program resources, and general program policies and procedures.
Students schedule their own sessions via our automated scheduling system, which allows tutors to indicate their regular weekly availability for hassle-free scheduling. All tutoring sessions are logged in a dedicated hour log and all homework is graded through our automated and customized grading system, allowing administrative staff to oversee progress and coordinate among team members in real time.
Full-length mock tests are regularly administered to ACT and SAT students by our administrative staff, and detailed results and progress reports are shared with all students, parents, and assigned tutors. Tutors are not asked to help coordinate, administer, or score any of these mock tests. Tutors may occasionally be asked to provide updates on overall student progress.
Interview Process
We accept applications for this position on a rolling basis. The interview process will begin with a 20 minute introductory phone call, which we aim to schedule within two weeks of reviewing your application, followed by a 60 minute mock tutoring session, which we aim to schedule within two weeks of the phone call. We anticipate making final decisions within one week of the mock tutoring session, and full onboarding of new tutors is typically complete within one month of an offer. Applicants will receive links via email to schedule these appointments as appropriate.
Mock tutoring sessions will be held virtually and recorded for asynchronous review by our administrative team. We will provide all relevant exam materials completed by the student ahead of time. Mock sessions will cover two subjects of your choosing, which you will select when you schedule the session. Sessions are held with our student interns, who are high school students in the same age range as the students you would be working with, so that the session reflects an actual tutoring session as closely as possible.
Availability & Scheduling
Applicants should have at least 10 hours available per week, and expect to start with a smaller number of students to establish effectiveness, with the ability to increase weekly hours as desired and available.
Through our automated scheduling system, tutors set their own availability and students are provided a link to schedule all sessions from the available times remaining. Tutors will receive email and/or text notifications for each schedule change, and students will receive automatic email and/or text reminders for each session, along with the Zoom link to join their session.
The Krupnick Approach offers both virtual and in-office tutoring services. Our offices are located at 401 N. Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago. Though we are looking for additional team members nationally and internationally for virtual sessions, applicants that are available to provide in-person sessions in our downtown Chicago offices will receive an additional $10.00 per hour for any and all in-person sessions.
Applicants should have at least some after-school hours available during the normal school year, and preferably at least some weekend availability year-round. Exact hours are flexible and availability is set by tutors themselves in accordance with agreed upon weekly totals. Many of our tutors hold other full-time or part-time positions, and we are committed to making our model work for a wide variety of preferences and circumstances.
Successful applicants will be assigned a limited number of students at first, and with proven effectiveness and positive reviews, should expect to grow their roster quickly if desired.
We also recognize that circumstances change over time. If a tutor's availability changes such that our model no longer works for them, whether temporarily or indefinitely, we are always happy to move them to inactive status on our roster rather than parting ways, and to reactivate them whenever they are ready to take on new students again.
Compensation
The Krupnick Approach is currently offering this independent contract position at $40.00/hour, with an additional $10.00/hour for any and all in-person sessions in our downtown Chicago offices. Rates do not vary by subject. With proven effectiveness and positive student reviews for newly onboarded tutors, we expect this position to increase to at least $45.00/hour after 6 months, and at least $50.00/hour after 1 year.
We maintain a strict 24 hour cancellation policy for all students, and tutors are paid in full for any late cancellations or no shows.
Tutors who refer new clients to the firm are also eligible for referral bonuses, which are arranged directly with our administrative team on a case by case basis.
Resources
All tutors are assigned a unique Krupnick Approach email and calendar via Google Workspace, and are expected to use this dedicated account when communicating or scheduling with students or parents.
Tutors will have full access to The Krupnick Approach ACT & SAT databases, with all full-length tests, strategy files, scoring information, and third-party resources. Tutors assigned to students preparing for other exams will also receive access to the relevant databases, which currently include Academic, Advanced Placement, College Prep, GMAT, GRE, HSPT, ISEE, LSAT, PSAT, SSAT, and others.
They will have full access to our paper grading software, allowing for quick and easy grading of all homework and mock tests, which includes all of our proprietary tag analysis for each section of the exams. They will also have full access to our digital testing platform, which exactly replicates the ACT and SAT digital testing platforms and provides detailed, live reporting of all student and assessment data.
Tutor hour logs provide a list of all current and past students assigned to the respective tutor, summary hour and pay data by student, weekly hour and pay data, and an easy-to-use payroll calculator for painless, biweekly payroll processing.
Tutors may also opt to use our virtual, cloud-based whiteboard system, which allows students to come back to their whiteboard at any time to review materials or complete their next round of homework. This feature works best for tutors with reliable access to a touchscreen device with a stylus, such as a tablet, iPad, or convertible laptop.
If a student requires supplemental materials that a tutor would prefer not to purchase themselves, such as textbooks or subscription services, tutors may request them through a dedicated form and we will take care of the purchase.
Tutors hired as independent contractors are required to secure and maintain their own paid Zoom account, computer, and reliable internet connection.
