- Role Overview:
- Echelon Grow is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Pre-Roll Specialist to support the production of pre-rolled cannabis products using automated or semi-automated equipment. The ideal candidate will possess both mechanical aptitude and a strong commitment to maintaining compliance with all applicable local and state laws governing the production of cannabis.
The incumbent will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and cleaning pre-roll equipment and ensuring all finished goods meet internal quality control standards and Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) requirements under the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act (CRTA) and corresponding administrative rules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate, monitor, and calibrate pre-roll machinery in compliance with manufacturer guidelines and Echelon Grow’s SOPs.
- Weigh, grind, and prepare cannabis flower for processing in accordance with established batch records and product specifications.
- Maintain accurate production logs, weight verification records, and quality assurance documentation, in full compliance with ILDOA and internal record keeping policies.
- Perform visual inspections and manual adjustments to ensure each pre-roll meets required standards for fill weight, pack density, cone alignment, and structural integrity.
- Immediately report machine malfunctions, irregularities in product, or batch discrepancies to the Production Supervisor and assist with troubleshooting and resolution.
- Conduct routine machine maintenance and sanitation as required, ensuring all cleaning is documented in accordance with internal SOPs and IDOA sanitation guidelines.
- Follow all safety protocols, including the use of PPE, and report any workplace hazards or injuries in accordance with Echelon Grow’s workplace safety program and OSHA standards.
- Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality, chain-of-custody requirements, and state-mandated product tracking using Metrc or other seed-to-sale software platforms.
- As a member of the post-harvest team, you must support team efficiency and production targets by performing other duties as assigned by management, including (but not limited to) packaging, labeling, maintenance, logistics, and post-harvest processing when necessary.
- Regularly update logs and records related to post-harvest activities, packaging, and logistics using METRC, BioTrack, Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, and Adobe.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the State of Illinois in the cannabis industry.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required; technical or vocational training in mechanical operations preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a production, manufacturing, or cannabis processing environment preferred.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check as required under the Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain mechanical equipment and follow written SOPs.
- Proficient in basic math, measurements, and recordkeeping for weight-based inventory and compliance reporting.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., perform repetitive tasks, and stand for extended periods of time in a production environment.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- This position operates in a regulated manufacturing facility subject to routine inspections by state agencies.
- Exposure to airborne cannabis particulates, noise, and machinery is expected.
- The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and use of hands/fingers in repetitive motion.
- Must be comfortable working in a secure environment under video surveillance at all times.
Compliance and Conduct:
The Pre-Roller Cannabis Machine Operator is expected to uphold the values and mission of Echelon Grow and ensure all activities are conducted in strict compliance with the Illinois Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act (410 ILCS 705), IDOA Administrative Code (8 Ill. Adm. Code 1300), and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws. Any violation of applicable regulations, safety rules, or internal policies may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

Qualifications:
● Age: You must be at least 21 years old to work in the cannabis industry in Illinois.
● Residency: You must be a resident of Illinois.
● Background Check: You must pass a background check, which includes reviewing your criminal history and compliance with cannabis regulations.
● Agent Identification Card: You must obtain a Dispensing Organization Agent Identification Card (DOA ID Card) from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). This card is required for all employees working in the cannabis industry in Illinois.
● High School Diploma or GED required.
● Previous experience in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field is preferred, with a minimum of 1 year of experience.
● Experience in a production or manufacturing environment is also preferred, with a minimum of 1 year of experience.
● Knowledge of cannabis cultivation practices and familiarity with state and local regulations about cannabis cultivation is preferred.
● Proficiency in fundamental mathematics, organizational abilities, and computer literacy are prerequisites, particularly with the Google Workspace suite of applications.
● Ability to work in a fast-paced, data-driven environment and adapt to changing priorities.
● Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills are essential.
● The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented and able to follow processes and procedures accurately.
● Must have a genuine interest in learning about cannabis cultivation and a willingness to collaborate and work as a team.
Working Conditions:
● This position operates in a controlled indoor environment with regulated temperature and humidity levels typical of indoor cultivation facilities.
● The role involves working with cannabis plants, which may expose individuals to plant allergens, pesticides, and other agricultural chemicals. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn as required.
● Candidates should be able to stand for prolonged periods, bend, kneel, squat, and twist as necessary.
● The work environment may include exposure to plant pollen and continuous noise from fans and motors.
● As part of the cultivation or packaging process, employees may be required to lift and move heavy objects, including bags of soil, plant containers, and equipment.
