Full Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Land Survey Draftsman to prepare accurate and precise survey drawings, plats, and maps based on data collected from field surveys. This position involves working closely with surveyors, engineers, and project managers to ensure that all deliverables meet project specifications and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, proficiency in drafting software, and a solid understanding of land surveying principles.

Direct Supervisor: Survey Manager

Key Responsibilities

Drafting and Drawing Preparation:

Create detailed survey drawings, plats, and topographic maps using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software.
Draft boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, construction layouts, and easement exhibits based on field data.
Accurately depict property boundaries, improvements, elevations, and other survey features.

Data Interpretation and Integration:

Interpret field notes, raw data, and legal descriptions to produce accurate drawings.
Incorporate GPS and total station data into survey deliverables.
Collaborate with survey crews to clarify discrepancies in field data.

Project Coordination:

Work closely with surveyors and project managers to understand project requirements and deadlines.
Ensure all drawings comply with local, state, and federal standards and regulations.
Maintain organized records of completed drawings and project files.

Quality Control:

Review and verify the accuracy of drawings and data for completeness and compliance.
Perform calculations to confirm dimensions, distances, and property boundaries.

Technology and Tools:

Utilize advanced drafting tools and techniques to streamline production and improve accuracy.
Stay updated on advancements in CAD software and surveying practices to enhance efficiency.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Experience as a draftsman, preferably in land surveying or civil engineering is preferred.
Associate’s degree or certification in drafting, geomatics, or a related field also preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other drafting software.
Strong understanding of land surveying principles, legal descriptions, and boundary law.
Familiarity with GIS software is a plus.

Other Requirements:

Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in drafting.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members.

Pay: $20.00 - $45.00 per hour
