General Description of Position:
The Aurora Fire Department is actively seeking Part-Time Firefighter/Paramedics. Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Part-Time Firefighter/Paramedics perform a wide variety of tasks including the delivery of Emergency Medical Services, fire suppression, and rescue responses.
Requirements:
- Qualified candidates must have excellent customer service, teamwork, and communication skills. The Aurora Fire Department is seeking highly motivated Firefighter/Paramedics whose personal values align with the organization’s core values of Service, Compassion, and Professionalism.
- A valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
- Must possess a valid Firefighter Level II certification in the State of Ohio.
- Must possess a valid Paramedic certification in the State of Ohio or be currently enrolled in a chartered Paramedic program. (Firefighter/EMTs must upgrade to Paramedic certification within one year.).
- All Paramedics must possess BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or PEPP, and ITLS or PHTLS certifications and maintain such as a requirement for continued employment.
Currently enrolled Paramedic students may apply; however, Firefighter/EMTs must pledge to earn State of Ohio Paramedic certification within one-year of hire as a requirement for continued employment. Current scheduling includes 12-hour shifts (08:00-20:00, 20:00-08:00); each member is required to submit availability to work at least 36 hours per month, 12 of which must be on a weekend (Friday 20:00 – Sunday 20:00)

About the Aurora Fire Department:
Under the direction of Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin and Fire Chief Matthew McBirney, the mission of the Aurora Fire Department is to provide the highest quality of fire and rescue services to the residents and visitors to our beautiful city. We use our training, expertise, and resources to protect, rescue, or assist in any way possible those who call on us for help.
The Aurora Fire Department serves the City of Aurora, an area covering 25 square miles and home to approximately 17,000 residents. We respond approximately 2,800 times a year to provide emergency medical services, fire suppression, rescue, smoke/carbon monoxide alarm investigations, and public assistance. Some of our other daily activities include fire prevention inspections, and teaching fire safety, CPR, and first aid. Additionally, our staff trains daily, sharpening their skills and keeping current with the latest advancements in EMS and firefighting.
Working 24/7 toward our mission is a team of full and part-time personnel. Our operations staff includes the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, Executive Administrative Assistant, three full-time Captains, three full-time Lieutenants, 13 full-time Firefighter-Paramedics, and 16 part-time Firefighter-Paramedics and Fire Inspectors. All staff members are both Firefighters and EMS providers.
Working out of two stations, the Aurora Fire Department operates three engines (pumpers), one aerial ladder truck, three rescue squads, and five support vehicles.
