Accounting Intern (Present – October 15)
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Intern to join our public accounting firm for a temporary internship from Present through October 15. This internship provides hands-on experience in bookkeeping, payroll, tax preparation, governmental accounting, and client accounting services. The intern will work alongside experienced accounting professionals, gaining practical exposure to a wide variety of accounting engagements while developing technical and professional skills.
This internship is ideal for students interested in pursuing a career in public accounting, taxation, governmental accounting, or financial reporting.
Internship Dates
- Start Date: Present
- End Date: October 15
- Duration: Approximately 10–11 weeks
- Schedule: Flexible based on student availability (part-time or full-time considered)
Internship Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Client Accounting Services
- Assist with bookkeeping for a variety of business clients.
- Enter and organize accounting transactions using accounting software.
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
- Review financial records for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with preparing sales tax returns.
- Assist with payroll processing and payroll reporting.
- Organize and maintain electronic client files.
- Respond to routine client requests under staff supervision.
Tax & Compliance
- Gather and organize tax documentation from clients.
- Assist with preparing workpapers for individual and business tax returns.
- Learn tax preparation software and assist with data entry.
- Assist with preparing:
- Individual Income Tax Returns
- Business Income Tax Returns
- Annual Reports
- Forms 1099
- Tangible Personal Property Tax Returns
- Assist with tax research and special projects as assigned.
Governmental Accounting
- Assist with reviewing general ledger activity.
- Prepare basic journal entries under supervision.
- Assist with monthly financial reporting.
- Help organize audit schedules and supporting documentation.
- Assist with budget preparation and financial analysis projects.
- Support governmental accounting engagements and special projects.
General Office Responsibilities
- Maintain organized client records and documentation.
- Learn firm procedures, accounting software, and workflow systems.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
- Provide professional and courteous client service.
Qualifications
Required
- Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
- Completion of introductory financial accounting coursework.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Preferred
- Completion of Intermediate Accounting coursework.
- Experience with QuickBooks or other accounting software.
- Previous office, bookkeeping, or customer service experience.
- Interest in public accounting, taxation, or governmental accounting.

Pay: $15.00 - $22.00 per hour
