POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently seeking a Transportation Operator to support roadway maintenance and construction operations. This role is responsible for performing general labor and assisting with a variety of roadway and traffic control activities to ensure safe and efficient transportation operations.
- Pay Rate: $18/hour (Non-CDL) | $20/hour (CDL)
- Work Schedule:
- Summer: 4x10 schedule (Tuesday–Friday)
- Fall and beyond: 8-hour shifts (Monday–Friday)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform general labor in support of highway maintenance and construction operations
- Assist with roadway flagging and traffic control activities
- Set up, maintain, and remove temporary work zones and traffic control devices
- Support roadway maintenance tasks including patching, clean-up, and basic repair work
- Operate and assist with hand tools and power tools used in roadway maintenance
- Participate in department meetings, trainings, and assigned seminars
- Support snow removal, storm response, and roadway accident clean-up operations as needed
- Follow established safety procedures and contribute to maintaining a safe work environment
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery
- Work collaboratively as part of a team within the division and organization
- Perform other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills in English
- Excellent customer service skills (internal and external stakeholders)
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess situations and take appropriate action
- Ability to understand and follow detailed instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively with both small and large groups
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience performing manual labor in highway maintenance, construction, or related field preferred
- Familiarity with roadway maintenance equipment, tools, and materials is a plus
- Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor in outdoor environments
- Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be Flagger Certified
- High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience or training may be substituted
- Experience assisting with preventative maintenance on roadway equipment is preferred
- Prior experience in roadway maintenance, construction, or emergency response operations (including snow removal, storm response, and accident cleanup) is highly desirable
