The Department of Public Safety at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Dispatcher/Surveillance Monitors position.

Receive emergency service calls from the public requesting police or other emergency services.
Determine the nature, location, and priority of emergency.
Enter the appropriate information in the computer and forward calls to the dispatcher.
Answer calls for maintenance service emergencies during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Use telecommunications systems to coordinate emergency calls and relay information and assistance requests involving other law enforcement agencies.
Enter, update, and retrieve information from NCIC relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles, and other information.
Receive, process, and transmit information to Federal, State, and local government agencies.
Respond to, type, and file printouts and document requests.
Responsible for answering all emergency and non-emergency calls via telephone and radio.
Speak clearly and understandably.
Maintain contact with all units on assignments.
Maintain the status and location of field units.
Enter updates, and retrieve information on wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, and other information from statewide computer networks.
Exercise good judgement and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
Effectively communicate with and elicit information from upset and irate citizens.

Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Able to function in an active and often hectic environment.
Able to take and relay messages and perform related duties and assignments.
Able to exercise independent judgment and work with minimum supervision.
Able to monitor camera surveillance feeds to detect suspicious or criminal activity.
Able to dispatch first responders to areas of the campus where suspicious or criminal activity is occurring.
