Atlas Roofing Shingles and Underlayment is seeking a Quality Technician for Clinton, IA.
Quality Technician Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine line and process audits to evaluate product quality and performance of shingles and felt products.
- Perform warehouse audits to assess the quality and condition of finished goods.
- Conduct required quality testing and inspections in accordance with established procedures and specifications.
- Accurately enter and maintain quality data in spreadsheets, documents, production databases, and other systems as required.
- Communicate quality concerns, test results, and process deviations to production supervision and employees in a timely manner.
- Identify, contain, and properly tag questionable or nonconforming material; communicate quality issues and quantities on hold to the Quality Manager and Production Manager.
- Operate, use, and maintain laboratory and quality testing equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain color standards and ensure required operator documentation is available and up to date at each color change, including QC sample boards and slate sample cups.
- Assist with the development, testing, and implementation of new products and processes.
- Perform required testing on Scotchguard products to verify compliance with established specifications.
- Assist with competitive product audits and related quality evaluations.
- Assist with training production employees on quality testing procedures and requirements.
- Provide transportation for employees requiring medical evaluation following a workplace injury, as needed in accordance with company procedures.
- Promote and support a safe work environment by adhering to all plant safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in safety initiatives, continuous improvement initiatives, and complete additional assignments and projects as needed.
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned.
Quality Technician Experience:
- Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, laboratory, quality, or related environment preferred.
- Previous experience performing quality inspections, testing, audits, or process checks in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with quality control principles, inspection methods, statistical process control, or continuous improvement practices.
Quality Technician Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to follow written procedures, work instructions, testing protocols, and quality standards.
- Basic mathematical skills and an understanding of statistical processes.
- Ability to create, maintain, and manipulate data in spreadsheets.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and other computer software.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with production employees, supervisors, and management.
- Ability to identify and communicate quality issues and assist with problem resolution.
Quality Technician Education, Licenses & Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate's degree in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
Quality Technician Additional Information:
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this position, the Quality Technician is regularly required to communicate verbally and hear effectively. The role frequently requires standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs and ladders, grasping, performing fine and gross motor movements, and reaching both forward and above head level throughout the duration of the shift. The employee must be able to work in varying temperature conditions, safely operate assigned machinery, and regularly push, pull and/or lift up to 50 lbs.
