Full Job Description

The Back Office Medical Assistant is responsible for routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians and other health practitioners running smoothly. Additional responsibilities include coordinating clinic patient flow, patient work-ups, exam room prep, and performing basic patient care activities. This position must have flexibility to work between locations in La Quinta and Palm Springs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records
Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean
Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients
Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms
Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies
Maintain inventory of test kits and order supplies for kits when necessary
Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures
Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential
Greet and check-in patients arriving at office or clinic
Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

High school diploma/ GED; Associates degree in Medical Assisting preferred
Current Medical Assistant certification (AAMA CMA, AMT RMA, NHA CCMA or NCCT NCMA) required; BCLS certification highly preferred
Possess an ability to function in a high stress, physically demanding setting
Knowledge of health care regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection spread, etc.)
Exemplary customer service experience including client relationships and job knowledge
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to exercise manual dexterity, control precision and arm-hand steadiness accurately
Ability to be empathetic with patients; ability to maintain confidentiality

Shift Information:
•Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
