Rampit USA, Inc. is seeking a talented and detail-oriented CAD Designer to join our growing team in Coldwater, Michigan.
Since 1992, Rampit USA has been a family-owned and operated company specializing in the design, manufacturing, and installation of residential, commercial, and portable wheelchair access ramps. Our CAD team plays an important role in turning field measurements, customer needs, and installation requirements into accurate, buildable ramp systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with sales, production, installers, subcontractors, and building departments.
Position Overview
The CAD Designer is responsible for designing and drafting wheelchair ramp systems, platforms, stairs, and related components. This position will take information from field measurements, site photos, customer specifications, and project requirements and develop accurate drawings that can be used for permitting, fabrication, and installation.
The successful candidate will be comfortable managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, solving design challenges, and making adjustments based on site conditions and production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and draft wheelchair ramp systems, platforms, stairs, and related structures using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
- Create detailed shop drawings, layouts, elevations, and installation plans
- Interpret field measurements, photographs, sketches, and project specifications
- Convert field information into accurate and buildable CAD drawings
- Work closely with sales and project coordinators to ensure designs meet customer requirements
- Collaborate with production and installation teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
- Modify existing designs based on site conditions, customer requirements, and project changes
- Review drawings for accuracy, dimensions, materials, clearances, and constructability
- Prepare drawings and documentation for building permits and inspections
- Work with subcontractors and building departments regarding drawings, permits, and project requirements
- Maintain organized CAD files, revisions, and project documentation
- Ensure drawings are completed accurately and within required timelines
- Assist with developing and improving standard ramp designs and CAD templates
- Identify potential design or installation issues before projects move into production
- Assist with special projects and other design-related duties as needed
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks
- Previous CAD drafting and design experience
- Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances, materials, and basic structural concepts
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and construction documents
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to visualize three-dimensional structures from two-dimensional drawings
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in structural, architectural, manufacturing, construction, or mechanical design
- Experience designing custom fabricated or modular systems
- Knowledge of ADA Accessibility Guidelines
- Familiarity with residential and commercial building codes
- Experience working with aluminum fabrication or structural aluminum systems
- Experience preparing drawings for building permits
- Experience working directly with manufacturing or installation teams
- SolidWorks modeling and assembly experience
- Previous experience in a leadership or project coordination role
