Job Summary
Join our dedicated team as a Housing Navigator, where you will play a vital role in connecting individuals and families to stable, affordable housing opportunities. This energetic position requires a compassionate, proactive professional who can guide clients through complex housing systems, advocate effectively, and coordinate with landlords, property managers, and community organizations. Your efforts will directly impact underserved populations, including those experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or high-risk circumstances. As a Housing Navigator, you will be at the forefront of empowering clients to achieve housing stability and independence through comprehensive case management and resource linkage.

Responsibilities

Assist clients in navigating housing assistance programs such as Section 8, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), and other subsidized housing options
Conduct thorough assessments to identify client needs related to housing stability, mental health, addiction recovery, and social support systems
Create and implement individualized housing support plans based on the client's individual needs
Work with community based organizations and link clients with additional services offered within the community
Conduct home inspections prior to client's moving into the new home
Advocate on behalf of clients during landlord negotiations and lease agreements, ensuring fair housing practices are upheld
Provide crisis intervention and crisis management support during urgent situations involving high-risk populations
Educate clients about their rights under Fair Housing regulations and landlord-tenant law to promote equitable access to housing opportunities
Coordinate with property management teams using tools like Yardi or OneSite to track applications, leases, and case notes
Implement motivational interviewing techniques to encourage client engagement and foster positive behavioral change
Support clients with mental health conditions by connecting them to appropriate services and providing ongoing case management

Skills

Strong negotiation skills to facilitate agreements between clients and landlords or property managers
Expertise in crisis intervention and crisis management strategies for high-risk populations
Knowledge of landlord-tenant law, Fair Housing regulations, and housing assistance programs including Section 8 and LIHTC
Knowledge of individualized housing support plans, long-term goals, short-term goals, and Community Supports Services
Experience in addiction counseling and working with individuals facing substance use challenges
Proficiency with property management software such as Yardi or OneSite for case documentation and tracking
Ability to work effectively with individuals from underserved communities and diverse backgrounds
Excellent communication skills for engaging clients through motivational interviewing and social work practices
Familiarity with working with individuals experiencing mental health conditions and providing high-risk population support
