Full Job Description

POSITION: Clinic Nurse

JOB SUMMARY: With a customer service orientation provides patient education and care to our plastic surgery patients.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Experience in physician’s office working as a R.N

Graduate of accredited nursing program with current state license

Established principles of aseptic technique, universal precautions, safety and emergency procedures

Essential Skills and Abilities:

Work requires the ability to demonstrate expertise with surgical instruments/equipment/supplies/ established principles of aseptic technique universal precautions, and safety and emergency procedures
Establish communication skills verbally and non-verbally and interpersonal skills
Treats patients and co-workers with respect.
To establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient care
Work requires high level of organization and planning for surgical procedures within the scope of practice
Problem solving by following established protocols and procedures: refers unusual situations to supervisor
Good problem solving and analytical skills.
Ability to work as a team member.
Well-organized with attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities:

Primary Duties

Reviews lab results and imaging prior to entering patient exam room

Takes patient history, and records the information in the patient's chart

Maintains own schedule

Assists surgeon in preparing for examinations and minor procedures

Performs tissue expansion under the direction of the surgeon

Performs pre-operative H&P for cosmetic patients and reviews information with surgeon

Triages post-operative patient phone calls; answers questions and determines if patients need to come in

Sees post-operative patients, answers questions and documents visit

Obtains needed equipment and supplies for exam rooms

Prints and calls in verbal orders for medications, and treatments, as directed by the surgeon

Requests pre-operative tests as needed

Confirms upcoming surgeries as well as post-op appointments with patients

Reviews all surgery charts for completeness

Performs patient education duties

Restocks exam rooms

Follows up on all specimens sent to the lab. All results are reviewed by the surgeon prior to filing in the patients charts
Secondary Duties

Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations

Places all bio hazardous waste in pick-up containers

Maintains patient confidentiality by following the HIPAA Compliance Plan established by the practice; releases PHI in accordance with the practice's HIPAA Compliance Plan, attends regular HIPAA training, maintains data security by refusing to share computer and other passwords, and reports all identified and suspected HIPAA violations to the Privacy Officer

Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions

Has current CPR

Attends all regular meetings

Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by the Manager or surgeons

Maintains treatment rooms and work areas incompliance with OSHA standards.
