POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists and backups the Business office Supervisor with billing customer accounts as well as assists CCU with payroll data entry. This position will also be responsible for effectively assisting the City Human Resources Department in general HR processes such as coordinating onboarding/off-boarding and life-event processes, policy compliance and personnel issues consistent with established city procedures.
ESSENTIAL (PRIMARY) DUTIES:
- Assist with billing process
- Assist with payroll process
- Assist HR with new onboarding employees.
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment and coordinating with HR regarding exiting/retiring/separating employees, as well as coordinating with HR on life events
- Assist CCU employees with policy compliance and personnel issues.
- Assist with other HR processes and tasks as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit at a desk in the Main Office for most of the day. Must be able to use a keyboard, computer and answer a telephone as needed. Fluency in English is a necessity, to work with the majority of Utility clients. Ability to be trained in Language Line and ability to work with diverse customers of all backgrounds including customers with limited English proficiency and persons with disabilities, consistent with Title VI requirements is a requirement.
Education:
The ideal candidate will have an associate degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business management, or human resource management, or equivalent experience. Computer experience is a necessity; competence in Excel and the ability to become expert in Excel is a necessity, as Tyler MUNIS, used for billing, financials, and Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) is Excel-based. Prior work experience in a billing position is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Job Location: Employee performs duties in a modern business office environment at the main office of Columbus City Utilities (CCU) with no unusual physical demands and works closely with Utility customers, supervisors, managers, and office staff. Employee will provide customer service in an environment where customers can at times be upset about their bill or loss of service and must remain professional and make attempts to de-escalate situations.

Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s License and maintain it at all times.
RESIDENCY:
Must reside in Bartholomew County or adjoining county within six (6) months of employment.
