Prairie Opportunity, Inc. is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Finance Director to join our leadership team. This position is ideal for a finance professional with strong accounting and leadership experience who is passionate about supporting a mission-driven organization.

The Finance Director oversees the agency's financial and business operations, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, maintaining sound internal controls, and providing strategic financial guidance to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

Job Summary

The Finance Director is hired by the Board of Directors upon the recommendation of the Executive Director. The Finance Director serves as the administrative officer responsible for the business and financial affairs of the agency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Organize, staff, and direct the activities of the fiscal operations unit.
Develop an annual financial plan and prepare a five-year financial forecast for the agency's financial development and operating requirements.
Prepare the agency's annual budget and manage its implementation following approval by the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Advise the Executive Director and Board of Directors on financial matters and provide support to the Finance Committee as assigned.
Direct the preparation of financial statements, cost analyses, work analyses, and related reports.
Administer the agency's insurance program, including coverage, valuations, claims, reporting, and policy maintenance.
Negotiate loans, property purchases, sales, and settlements within authorized authority.
Work with the Executive Director and legal counsel on matters involving taxes, contracts, legal documents, liabilities, and legal actions.
Purchase materials and services and negotiate contracts in accordance with agency policies.
Maintain accurate accounting records and effective internal controls for all agency funds.
Attends workshops, seminars and other training as appropriate to meet Program goals and objectives
Assist the Executive Director and agency leadership in translating the agency's mission, vision, and programs into realistic financial plans.
Prepare monthly budget reports for all agency programs and provide financial reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
Establish and maintain filing systems, records management procedures, record retention policies, permanent property records, and custody of legal documents.
Advise the Executive Director and Board regarding the need for legal, audit, and other professional services.
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, funding requirements, and agency policies.
Verify the accuracy, legality, and compliance of all financial transactions.
Develop, update, and maintain fiscal policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Oversee the maintenance of financial office equipment and recommend repairs or replacements as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration.
Minimum of three (3) years of management-level accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing grant-funded organizations.
Experience using a Grants Management System (GMS) or comparable accounting software.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other business software.
Excellent organizational, analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with a nonprofit organization or Community Action Agency.
Experience managing multiple federal and state grant programs.

Pay: $57,616.50 - $70,000.00 per year
