Full Job Description

Road Crew Worker

General Nature of Work:

Incumbent is responsible for performing unskilled to semi-skilled routine labor tasks for the maintenance, construction and repair of roads, culverts, cemeteries, and parks using a variety of hand and power tools, small machines, and light to medium equipment. Incumbent works as a member of the road crew. Duties are performed under the supervision of the Road Department Supervisor, Road Crew Leader, and Township Administrator.

Qualifications:

High school education or equivalent plus a minimum of one (1) year relevant work experience in general roadway maintenance, construction and / or the operation of medium to heavy duty truck. Overtime is mandatory and a condition of continued employment. Must maintain a telephone at place of residence and be available for work on short notice and outside scheduled work hours. Must complete 6-month probationary period. Must be in good physical condition, i.e., ability to pass all required physical exams and drug testing as required by the State of Ohio and the Township Trustees.

Essential Functions and Duties:

Operates light to medium equipment, such as power saws, weed eaters, chain saws, jack hammer, compactor, etc. to perform construction, repair, and maintenance work for roadway to include loading/unloading dirt, spreading gravel, stone, mix and/or tar, establishing level and/or grade, repairing / installing culverts, digging footers, backfilling, and other similar activities;
Transports equipment, tools, supplies, and materials to and from various job sites as directed;
Performs manual labor tasks, such as loading / unloading trucks, patching roads, filling potholes, cutting brush and trees, mixing, and pouring concrete, cleaning culverts;
Inspects, maintains and clears brush and other obstructions to alleviate problems of visibility of signage;
Performs flagging activities to control traffic flow as directed;
Performs snow removal activities and spreads salt for snow and ice control as assigned;
Performs preventive maintenance to tools and equipment to include cleaning, lubricating, adding fluids and performing routine adjustments;
Performs general custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, and/or cleaning of facilities;
Performs general maintenance and repair of facilities.
Performs maintenance of parks and cemeteries, including mowing, trimming, pruning trees and brush removal;
Performs opening and closing of graves for funeral services with backhoe;
