Full Job Description

Position Profile

The Lead Service Technician is a skilled field professional who self-performs commercial trade work across a variety of scopes and project types. This role operates with a high degree of independence — managing day-to-day field execution, coordinating with subcontractors, and maintaining a professional presence on site. Projects range from a few days to several weeks and may include occupied commercial spaces.

The Lead Service Technician reports to the Service Department Manager, who is responsible for estimating, scheduling, and client relationship management. Field execution and site conduct are the direct responsibility of this role.

Accountability

The Lead Service Technician is directly accountable for:

Delivering quality self-perform trade work across assigned scopes and project types
Managing field operations independently and maintaining consistent pace and productivity on site
Coordinating with subcontractors to support sequencing and overall project progress
Upholding Compton’s standard of professionalism in all client and subcontractor interactions
Maintaining accurate field documentation including photos and site notes
Communicating proactively with the Service Department Manager on project status, material needs, and any field issues

Key Responsibilities

Field Execution

Perform commercial trade work independently across assigned scopes including drywall finishing, painting, framing, finish carpentry, and flooring
Assess site conditions upon arrival and execute work efficiently with minimal direction
Manage competing tasks and priorities within a project to maintain quality and schedule
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site throughout the duration of the project

Subcontractor Coordination

Work alongside subcontractors on shared job sites, supporting trade sequencing and overall project flow
Identify and communicate field issues or coordination needs to the Service Division Manager in a timely manner

Client Interaction

Conduct all work in occupied or active commercial spaces with appropriate professionalism and site awareness
Interact courteously and clearly with clients and building occupants as needed during project execution

Documentation & Procurement

Maintain field documentation including progress photos and site notes for internal records and quality accountability
Source and acquire materials as needed in coordination with the Service Department Manager

Required Skills & Experience

Three or more years of hands-on trades experience with demonstrated proficiency across multiple scopes - commercial experience preferred
Skilled in drywall finishing, painting, framing, and finish carpentry at a commercial standard; experience with flooring systems a plus
Ability to work independently on a job site, managing time and scope execution without close supervision
Sound field judgment — ability to assess conditions, determine the appropriate course of action, and execute effectively
Professional conduct in client-facing and occupied-space environments
Strong written and verbal communication skills for field coordination and manager updates
Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license required
Ownership of a full set of hand and power tools required
Prior commercial job site experience required
