Could you be the next great karaoke or trivia host?
We are looking for fun, energetic, personable people who have attended and enjoy karaoke and/or trivia, and who think hosting would be a perfect fit for their personality and lifestyle. We are looking for a minimum availability of 3-4 nights a week. Trivia shows are usually in the evening for two hours between 5-10 pm, while karaoke usually goes 4 hours and can start as early as 6 but go as late as 2am/hosts not getting home until 3am.
So what does hosting really entail?
The real key to success will be in promotion and forging a tight relationship with both the staff and management at each of your venues, as well as developing a good following of newly met trivia and karaoke friends. The ability to be a reliable self-starter, taking ownership of your show, being able to take constructive criticism, and using the tools and skills we provide you with to grow a successful following at each of your shows is what the job really comes down to.
To say the least, Excesss likes to hire from those that love karaoke and trivia- especially those that are fans of OUR brand of karaoke and trivia. To date, our most successful hosts have first been regulars at our shows. If you are a regular attendee, please let us know which shows and locations you regularly frequent. If you haven’t, we very much would like you to attend a few of both of our karaoke and trivia shows- and make sure that this is something that you would love to be a part of/that you understand what at least the HOSTING portion of doing this job actually looks like. We are looking for self-starting, responsible, reliable hosts who have that “IT” factor - Rooms notice when you walk in! Does that describe you?

Must have minimal technical, internet, social media, and hosting abilities, as well as being able to master the software and systems we employ. Full internet access and phone is required for following posts in our host’s group, posting quizzes, and staying in contact with us daily, and for submitting payroll weekly. - Must own a PC and be able to download and use Dropbox, Acrobat Reader, Facebook, and the software we use to write/run our trivia nights. Do you feel comfortable enough with computers to that level?

Must be able to work 3-4 shows per week. Reliability week in and week out is a must! Busiest show days/times are evenings, Monday thru Thursday. Can you work those days and times each week, reliably?

Hosts must stay with the equipment during their shows/events. Can you work 4 hours without a break?

Host must be capable of loading, unloading, lifting, and carrying/setting up the provided equipment and gear. Can you manage 50 pounds of somewhat bulky gear comfortably/safely?

Unless there are religious or medical exceptions, all applicants should be fully vaccinated against and willing to provide proof of vaccination for COVID-19. Are you vaccinated and can you provide proof, such as with a vaccination card?

Do you have a safe location in your house - behind a locked door - where you can store gear when it is at your location in between shows. A closet in a bedroom is ideal - the middle of a shared living room is not acceptable.

This is basically a mobile dj-type job. • Hosts are required to safely and reliably transport themselves and the equipment/gear to and from all shows they host. Can you provide proof of either the ability to drive legally in Ohio and proof of insurance OR provide full written documentation of how you AND the equipment will be able to be transported to and from shows and events safely and reliably?

Nonsmokers preferred. Smoking when gear is in your home or your vehicle is discouraged. Would that be a problem?

Payment is weekly via direct deposit so a valid US checking or savings bank account is necessary. You have that?

We use Facebook as our workplace group chat, where we share information, schedule special events, requests days off, etc. The job itself does require online promotion on our social media pages as well, so having a page is required. Please provide us with the full link to your Facebook page - as well as any other social media you have/ would like to share with us.
We know this seems like a lot, but this is a very unique and specific kind of position. We really want to make sure this would be a great fit for candidates!
