Our Ohio team is seeking a driven and experienced Senior Water Resources Engineer in Columbus to add technical, project management, and business development expertise to our growing dams and water resource practice. The ideal candidate will provide high level technical support to our current industry experts and clients, bring new business to GEI, while also helping mentor and guide our team.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with one or more of the following: flood control structures (i.e. dams, spillways, levees, floodwalls, etc); stormwater management and design; large civil infrastructure projects; or floodplain management. The desired professional must possess strong leadership and communication skills and be proficient in report and proposal writing, presentations, and have a strong interest in business development. There is flexibility with a hybrid work schedule as part of this position.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties

Manage large projects within technical specialty. Potential projects include civil works projects, dam rehabilitations, dam removals, river restoration, flood control, stormwater management planning and design.
- Oversee and lead technical studies, design development, and development of construction drawings, technical specifications, bid documents and project schedules.

Prepare detailed written memoranda and reports on technical assignments and present technical information to peers and clients;

Lead development of proposals to provide professional services and strive to develop new business in areas of specialty. Candidate will interface with client to understand and deliver on project needs.

Maintain technical excellence, actively participate in professional organizations, and mentor junior staff.

The candidate may be expected to act as the Engineer of Record on projects.

Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel.

Working knowledge of Ohio, Federal and Local regulatory and permitting requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Minimum of 15 years of professional experience demonstrating skills mentioned above with at least 5 years experience in project management and client relationship management roles;

B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources related field, M.S. considered a plus.

Registered Ohio Professional Engineer or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Experience preparing high quality proposal documents.

Established relationships with local and regional agencies and clients in Ohio and the Midwest.

Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.

Possess a valid driver’s license.

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well alone and in a team atmosphere.

Ability to travel on temporary work assignments.

Excellent computer skills and experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Teams. Experience with GIS, CAD, MS Project, and other technical analysis software is a plus.
