Reliable Manufacturing is bringing welding in-house and is looking for an experienced Lead Welder to help us establish and grow our welding operation.
This is more than a production welding position. We need someone who can produce high-quality welds, understand welding processes and procedures, take ownership of weld quality, and help us build the foundation of a successful welding department.
The right person will be hands-on, technically capable, quality-minded, and interested in having a meaningful role in developing the welding capabilities of a growing manufacturing company.
What You'll Do
Welding Production & Quality
- MIG/GMAW weld pipe, bar stock, plate, and fabricated components according to established welding procedures.
- Perform fillet and T-joint welds with consistent penetration, appearance, and structural integrity.
- Weld carbon steel pipe and bar/plate assemblies used in natural gas meter-setting applications.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, dimensions, and welding procedures.
- Set up and adjust welding equipment, including amperage, voltage, wire speed, gas flow, and travel speed.
- Inspect your own work and identify defects, inconsistencies, or process issues before parts move downstream.
- Maintain consistent weld quality while meeting production requirements.
- Help establish and maintain welding standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Work closely with Engineering and Production to troubleshoot weld-related issues and improve processes.
Building the Welding Department
- Help establish repeatable welding processes as we continue bringing fabrication capabilities in-house.
- Assist with developing and documenting Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs), procedures, and work instructions.
- Help determine appropriate welding parameters, equipment, fixturing, and process controls.
- Provide input on future welding equipment, tooling, and department needs.
- Help train other welders and production employees as the department grows.
- Take ownership of welding quality and help establish a culture where quality is built into the process—not inspected afterward.
Where We're Going
Our initial need is focused on MIG/GMAW production welding, including welding pipe to bar stock and other fabricated components.
As our welding operation develops, we plan to expand into TIG/GTAW pipe welding for natural-gas-carrying applications. We anticipate pursuing API 1104 qualification/certification as part of that expansion.
Experience with API 1104, pipe welding, TIG/GTAW, WPS/PQR development, or qualification testing is highly valuable. However, API 1104 certification is not required to start.
Someone who already has this experience would be an exceptional fit, but we recognize that this combination of skills is uncommon.
What We're Looking For
- Experienced welder with strong hands-on MIG/GMAW experience.
- Demonstrated ability to produce consistent, high-quality welds in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience welding carbon steel pipe, bar stock, plate, or similar materials.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Strong understanding of welding parameters and how they affect weld quality.
- Ability to follow and work from a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).
- Experience writing, developing, or improving welding procedures is strongly preferred.
- Experience with weld inspection and quality control is strongly preferred.
- AWS welding certification(s) preferred.
- TIG/GTAW pipe welding experience is a significant plus.
- API 1104 experience or certification is a significant plus.
- Experience developing WPSs, PQRs, or qualification procedures is a significant plus.
- Ability and willingness to help train and develop other welders as the department grows.
- Strong attention to detail and a high standard for workmanship.
- Dependable, safety-minded, and willing to take ownership of problems rather than pass them along.
The Person We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who wants to build something, not simply clock in and weld parts.
You should be comfortable working independently, identifying problems, making recommendations, and helping establish the right way to do things. Because this is a newly established welding operation, there will be opportunities to influence processes, equipment, procedures, training, and ultimately the direction of the department.
The ideal candidate will bring experience, technical knowledge, and a willingness to lead from the floor.
