POSITION SUMMARY

UTI is seeking a motivated Survey Technician to join our Survey and Geomatics team. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals with 0-2 years of field surveying experience who are interested in developing a career in land surveying, utility surveying, and geospatial data collection.

The Survey Technician will collect accurate field data using GNSS and robotic total station equipment to support pipeline, utility, facility, and construction projects throughout the natural gas industry. The successful candidate will initially work alongside experienced survey professionals and, after completing training, will be expected to independently perform field data collection activities while maintaining UTI's standards for safety, quality, and professionalism.

This role offers significant variety, allowing employees to work on pipeline, utility, facility, and construction projects while gaining experience with modern survey technologies and industry best practices.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

· Perform field survey data collection using GNSS and robotic total station equipment.

· Support topographic, boundary, route, utility, construction, and as-built surveys.

· Collect accurate geospatial data for engineering, operational, and construction projects.

· Work independently in the field after completing training and demonstrating competency.

· Coordinate site access and field activities with landowners, contractors, and client field personnel.

· Maintain survey equipment and ensure data quality throughout project execution.

· Transfer, organize, and review collected field data for completeness and accuracy.

· Travel to project sites as required to support survey activities.

· Follow all safety, operational, and quality assurance procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Survey Operations

· Operate GNSS receivers, robotic total stations, and associated survey equipment.

· Establish project control, collect field measurements, and document project conditions.

· Perform topographic surveys, utility mapping, route surveys, and construction staking.

· Conduct as-built surveys for newly installed utility and pipeline infrastructure.

· Support integrity excavation (dig) activities and utility conflict investigations.

· Assist with facility, station, and pipeline corridor surveys.

· Verify field conditions and identify discrepancies requiring additional investigation.

Data Collection & Quality

· Maintain accurate field notes, records, and digital survey data.

· Download, organize, and prepare collected data for processing and project deliverables.

· Perform basic quality checks to ensure survey accuracy and completeness.

· Assist surveyors and project teams with data review and project coordination.

Safety & Professionalism

· Follow company safety procedures and client site requirements.

· Operate company vehicles and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.

· Communicate professionally with landowners, contractors, and client field personnel.

· Represent UTI positively while working in public and private locations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· High school diploma or GED.

· 0-2 years of field surveying experience.

· Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

· Ability to pass a DOT drug screen and background check.

· Basic understanding of surveying principles and field measurement techniques.

· Ability to learn and operate GNSS and robotic total station equipment.

· Ability to work independently after training and demonstrate sound judgment in the field.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

· Effective verbal and written communication skills.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

· Ability to read and interpret survey plans, maps, sketches, aerial imagery, and project documentation.

· Willingness to travel to project sites and perform field work in varying weather conditions.

· Ability to perform the physical demands associated with outdoor field surveying activities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Associate degree or coursework in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, Geography, GIS, or a related field.

· Experience using Trimble survey equipment and/or Trimble software.

· Familiarity with topographic, boundary, utility, route, construction, or as-built surveys.

· Experience working in utility, pipeline, energy, or infrastructure environments.

· Knowledge of survey data collection workflows and field documentation practices.

· FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.

· Experience with drone-based data collection and mapping technologies.

· GIS, CAD, or survey data processing experience.
