The Annually Contracted Faculty member creates, manages and participates in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. The Annually Contracted Faculty member participates collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college and of the collective and individual interests of its staff and student body. The contracted faculty member supports and seeks always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the College embodied in the philosophy, mission, values and vision adopted by the board of education. This position description is in association with the Annually Contracted Faculty contract. This position is intended to be in Medical Assisting instruction.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Instruction & Student Learning
- Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum in conjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring both the rigor of programs and the quality of instruction.
- Considers individual differences of students to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.
- Participates in identifying students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource.
- Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning using such technology.
- Keep accurate and proper records according to the Faculty Handbook and departmental policies.
- Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades promptly and per established policies and procedures of the college, and communicates progress feedback and other relevant information to students throughout the semester.
- Create and maintain accurate syllabi incorporating departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements.
- Participates in selecting appropriate materials to support course curriculum per the College’s guidelines.
- Conducts classes punctually and following the prescribed meeting schedule.
- Employs and assists in designing and developing appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
- Be a facilitator of learning in a virtual environment.
Student Engagement & Advisement
- Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and learner support.
- Maintains posted office hours per departmental and policies of the College. Uses technology to assist in communication with students.
- Encourages a sense of community among students for learning inside and outside the classroom.
- Refers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.
Continuous Improvement
- Promotes continual improvement as part of the cycle of teaching and learning by assisting, as appropriate, in the maintenance of instructional materials and laboratory facilities; contributing, as applicable, to the development, selection, and improvement of instructional materials, laboratories, and other instructional facilities; providing guidance in the development, maintenance, and design of course description, course outlines, and syllabi; recommending modifications to the curriculum and participating in the design of new curricula.
- Completes all mandatory performance evaluation measures within specified time limits and participates in all required training by the College.
- Shares best practices with colleagues in formal or informal settings.
- Participates in instructional, departmental, or institutional research to improve educational effectiveness.
- Evaluates teaching and assessment practices to continue improving them.
- Provides feedback, as appropriate, regarding the general operations of the department, division, and the College. Participates, as appropriate, in the interviewing, selection, and orientation processes of department faculty and staff.
- Provides advice and assistance to department, division, or College faculty.
- Attends faculty meetings as called by the President, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean, or Department Chairperson; and participates, as appropriate, on departmental and divisional committees.
Professional Development
- Maintains a personal portfolio for tenure and promotion review and other career-related needs.
- Employs student, administrative, and self-appraisals to establish goals and objectives for professional development and participates in professional development activities.
- Contributes, as appropriate, to the planning, evaluation, and/or presentation of college professional development programs.
- Maintains required professional credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictate.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Typical office/classroom. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contributes to the community and/or the profession as a representative of the College.
- Participates in local, statewide, or national levels in the advancement of the discipline and/or the two-year college mission.
- Works a varying schedule, including nights & weekends to meet departmental needs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor's degree in education or a health-related major or completion of a Bachelor’s degree within one (1) year after accepting this position.
- One (1) year of medical or allied health education teaching or training and three (3) years of medical assisting experience.
- Instructional methodology education may be demonstrated by documentation of completed workshops, in-service sessions, seminars, or completed college courses on topics including, but not limited to, learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodology, or assessment techniques.
*An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s)
- Current Certified as a Medical Assistant that is accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or under International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Compensation Details:
- 9-Month Lecturers Salary*: $43,848.00 - $50,112.00
• Autumn/Spring: $21,924 (21 hrs.) - $25,056 (24 hrs.)
- Optional Summer Semester (15-21contact hours): $15,660.00 - $21,924.00
- Optional Overload (maximum amounts shown):
- Autumn Semester (6 contact hours max): $5,865.00
- Spring Semester (6 contact hours max): $5,865.00
- Summer Semester (6 contact hours max): $5,865.00
* 9-Month hours equaling 42 hrs. - 48 hrs.
