Job Title: Veteran Claims Billing & Recovery Specialist
Department: Patient Financial Services
Reports to: Executive V.P. of Operations

Compensation: Average annual earnings in this position: $75,000 (Base pay and bonuses)

Job Summary:

The Veteran Claims Billing & Recovery Specialist is responsible for the facilitation of accurate and timely claims processing in accordance with laws, regulations, and administrative rulings of governmental organizations, other regulatory agencies, and contractual obligations. Job functions include, but are not limited to, medical billing, re-billing, corrected claims, follow-up and appeals.

Education and Work Experience:

High School Diploma (Medical Billing and/or Coding certificate preferred)
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in medical billing and/or insurance collections
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (Advanced Excel knowledge)
Hospital Information Systems (i.e. Meditech, EPIC, Cerner)
Electronic Claims Management Systems (i.e. SSI; Quadax)

Primary Job responsibilities:

Accurately bill and follow-up on medical claims
Average of 60 claims processed per day
Act as a liaison between VCP clients and the Veterans Administration, facilitating the collections of claim charges
Participate in staff meetings
Daily reports to Supervisor (written and oral)
Identifies areas for improvement and suggest options for problem resolution
Demonstrate account review techniques that support and validate claim action(s) taken
Distinguish UB and 1500 validation issues that should be reported to management
Contact third party payers to facilitate timely account resolution
Document all contacts and information obtained
Ensure compliance with Client and Veteran Claims Paid, LLC policies and procedures regarding PHI, HIPPA
Maintain consistent audit trail including notating patient accounts accurately, timely, and professionally

Additional Responsibilities:

Use data to evaluate accounts receivable and create and/or revise work plans
Participate in process improvement
Participate in team and individual goal setting and achievement
Use available resources for system troubleshooting
Perform tasks that are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job
Demonstrate initiative in personal/professional development
Present a professional image
Assist with control of costs through the judicious use of human and material resources
Other duties as assigned

Work environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a secure, clean, well-lighted, heated, and ventilated office. The noise level should be kept to a minimum.

Ethics and Compliance:

Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Veteran Claims Paid, LLC and their Clients to remain compliant with all programs (Governmental or otherwise). The employee is always responsible to be compliant and to report any compliance variances immediately to their immediate supervisor.
