Senior Plumbing Estimator - $120k-$140k - 10-12 years of prior estimating experience

Plumbing Estimator / Senior Plumbing Estimator

Location: Columbus, OH

Position Overview

We are actively hiring for both a Plumbing Estimator and a Senior Plumbing Estimator in Columbus, Ohio.

The Estimator is responsible for estimating and completing takeoffs for plumbing projects and, depending on level, may also support HVAC, sheet metal, and fire protection projects. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical contracting, the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, designers, owners, vendors, subcontractors, and field personnel, and the ability to produce accurate, timely, and complete estimates.

The ideal candidate will understand project design intent, identify and fill in missing information when necessary, and support smooth project turnover from estimating through operations.

Core Responsibilities (All Levels)

Read and interpret project drawings, specifications, and technical documents
Perform material takeoffs and project pricing
Obtain quotes from subcontractors and suppliers
Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to secure scopes and pricing, including meetings and discussions regarding scope of work
Attend project site surveys and job walks as needed
Stay current with estimating software and attend training as required
Support estimating database and spreadsheet development and maintenance
Create clear and detailed scope letters
Support smooth and timely project estimating and project turnover processes
Provide complete and accurate information for project handoff, including takeoffs, quotations, and supporting documentation
Perform additional duties as assigned

Plumbing Estimator

Experience & Qualifications

Minimum 10 years of commercial plumbing or heating experience, or completion of an approved apprenticeship program with 3 years of Journeyman experience
Minimum 10 years of prior estimating experience

Role Focus

Perform plumbing job takeoffs and pricing
Lead and finalize job estimates
Support estimating efforts for assigned projects
Work with estimating leadership on estimating tools and process improvements

Senior Plumbing Estimator

Experience & Qualifications

Minimum 12 years of commercial plumbing, heating, and/or fire protection estimating experience, or completion of an approved apprenticeship program with 5 years of Journeyman experience
Minimum 8–12 years of prior estimating experience
OSHA 30 certification required

Role Focus

Support estimating for plumbing, HVAC, sheet metal, and/or fire protection projects
Understand project design intent and identify missing information required to complete estimates
Provide conceptual drawings and material takeoffs that support project design intent
Finalize project estimates and support project bid submissions
Provide detailed turnover information for operations teams, including takeoffs, quotations, and supporting correspondence
Support estimating strategy and cross-functional coordination efforts

Required Skills for both roles:

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and technical documents
Knowledge of general plumbing and piping installation
Strong mathematical ability
Strong computer skills
More than 5 years of experience in at least one of the following estimating applications:
Trimble (Accubid)
FastPIPE / FastDUCT
AutoBid Mechanical
QuoteSoft

Preferred Technical Experience

Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Estimating software experience
QuickPen, Trimble Viewpoint, Autodesk Est-MEP, and/or QuoteSoft experience preferred
Bluebeam experience preferred

Additional Skills

Strong attention to detail
Strong organizational skills
Good time management skills
Ability to learn new systems and technologies
Understanding of confidentiality requirements
Ability to conduct scope reviews with customers and clients
Ability to communicate professionally with peers, customers, subcontractors, and project teams

Education

Plumbing Estimator

High School Diploma or GED required
Journeyman Plumber license or equivalent experience
Journeyman HVAC license or equivalent experience

Senior Plumbing Estimator

High School Diploma or GED required
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or equivalent Associate degree in Project Management preferred
Journeyman Plumber license or equivalent experience
Journeyman HVAC license or equivalent experience
Journeyman Fire Protection license or equivalent experience

Physical Requirements

Eyesight correctable to 20/50
Ability to perform jobsite tours
Ability to climb ladders and equipment as required

Special Requirements

Valid Driver’s License required
Ability to work onsite
Travel between office locations may occasionally be required

Pay: $90,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
