Definition:
Under direction, is responsible for coordinating school interscholastic athletic programs; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work: (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties that may be performed.)
· Schedules and coordinates high school girls’ and boys’ athletic programs such as football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, track, cross country, golf, tennis, volleyball, softball, baseball, swimming, and cheerleading; supports middle school athletic programs as necessary;
· Coordinates pre-season meetings with coaches and parents regarding league rules, national federation rules, and the Ohio High School Athletic Association rules;
· Determines eligibility and answers questions regarding eligibility requirements for student athletes;
· Coordinates the scheduling and use of school athletic facilities; coordinates the use of City recreational facilities with the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, when necessary;
· Assists Student Activities central office in the administration of City league championships and tournaments;
· Assists in revising middle and high school athletic manuals;
· Responsible for budgeting a high school athletic account and preparing financial statements;
· Oversees athletic uniform and equipment needs; orders items for athletic programs as needed;
· Coordinates scheduling officials for athletic contests; submits forms requesting replacement officials as needed;
· Interprets Ohio High School Athletic Association and Columbus City Schools policies regarding student activities;
· Monitors and reviews officials, coaches, and game managers;
· Recommends and incorporates improvements in high school athletic programs
Department Requirement:
Create and facilitate new hire training
Must maintain a valid driver's license
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience supervising extracurricular athletic programs at a high school or college level, supervising a public recreation center with diverse athletic programs, or working as a certified athletic trainer in a high school or college setting. Substitution(s): A master’s degree in sports administration may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. Additional years of experience as stated above may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Must attach official college transcript or degree for educational credit before submitting the application. 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours = 1 academic year
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of athletic/sports administration; general knowledge of Ohio High School Athletic Association rules and bylaws; general knowledge of Columbus City Schools athletic policies and interscholastic athletic programs; some knowledge of basic financial record keeping; ability to conduct fact-finding investigations; ability to write clear, complete, accurate, and logical reports; ability to comprehend, explain, and apply District rules, regulations, and bylaws; ability to operate a computer and related software; ability to work cooperatively with others; ability to maintain records; ability to plan and develop athletic schedules; ability to establish and meet deadline
