Position Summary
TechR2 seeks a results-driven Equipment Maintenance & Fabrication Technician who is a self-starter, and responsible for building, fabricating, servicing, and maintaining all TechR2 equipment and systems. The role combines preventive and corrective maintenance with hands-on machining, welding, and metal fabrication: the technician performs scheduled preventive maintenance and operational inspections on a wide range of data-destruction and degaussing equipment, and fabricates, machines, welds, or modifies components to keep equipment in service. The technician also supports quality control and metrology, inspecting and verifying fabricated and repaired components against manufacturer and TechR2 specifications, while maintaining detailed repair logs, procedures, and an up-to-date library of manufacturer diagrams, manuals, and technical references for rapid troubleshooting. The technician coordinates directly with manufacturers to procure spare parts, arrange factory repairs when required, complete repair requisitions, and obtain appropriate approvals; supports the design, build, and continuous improvement of TechR2's in-house maintenance and fabrication shop; and upholds TechR2's safety and compliance standards, including stop-work authority when unsafe conditions arise.
Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repair
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and operational inspections on all TechR2 data-destruction, degaussing, and related equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control-system faults, and complete repairs to restore equipment to service.
- Conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) on recurring or critical failures and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce downtime.
- Calibrate, adjust, and test equipment to manufacturer specifications and TechR2 quality and performance standards.
- Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals to support rapid troubleshooting.
Machining & Component Fabrication
- Fabricate, modify, or machine replacement components and tooling (where qualified) to keep equipment operational, using manual and/or CNC equipment as available.
- Perform machining processes appropriate to the task, which may include milling, turning, drilling/boring/reaming, tapping and thread milling, grinding, sawing, and cutoff operations.
- Select appropriate materials and tooling for the application, accounting for fits and clearances, thread selection, surface-finish requirements, and tool life.
Welding & Metal Fabrication
- Perform welding and joining using applicable processes (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick, and/or Flux-Core) consistent with qualifications and the work at hand.
- Fabricate structural and sheet-metal assemblies, including fixture and weld-table setup, tube and pipe fabrication, and machining of weldments.
- Apply sheet-metal fabrication methods such as bend calculations, bend allowance/deduction, K-factor, and flat-pattern development, along with shearing, rolling, and forming as required.
- Apply distortion-control techniques to maintain dimensional accuracy on fabricated and welded assemblies.
Quality Control, Metrology & Documentation
- Inspect and verify fabricated and repaired components using appropriate measuring instruments; select correct gauges and understand calibration and measurement-uncertainty requirements.
- Support quality processes that may include CMM inspection planning, statistical process control (SPC), first-article inspection, inspection plans, and corrective-action documentation.
- Maintain repair-process documentation for each type of repair and maintenance procedure and prepare standard operating procedures and work instructions as needed.
- Keep detailed repair logs for every piece of equipment, including work performed, parts used, and downtime.
- Maintain maintenance records in the designated system (e.g., CMMS or equivalent) for PM scheduling, work orders, and asset history.
Parts & Vendor Management
- Track and manage spare-parts inventory, including reorder points, to ensure critical-parts availability.
- Coordinate with manufacturers to procure spare parts, arrange factory repairs, complete requisitions, and obtain required approvals.
- Maintain a complete, current library of manufacturer diagrams, manuals, and technical references for quick access.
Machine-Shop Design, Build & Continuous Improvement
- Support the design, setup, and build-out of TechR2's in-house maintenance and fabrication shop, including equipment selection, layout, and capability planning - Preferred
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, 5S, reliability programs) to improve uptime, throughput, and process efficiency.
- Attend Council Meetings to provide equipment-readiness, efficiency, and reliability reports, and submit scheduled reports to the Operations and Compliance departments.
Safety, Compliance & Data Security
- Enforce safe operation of all TechR2 machinery and systems and actively promote a strong safety culture.
- Apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) before servicing equipment and follow hazard-communication and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements.
- Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow machine-specific safe-operating practices (e.g., guarding, E-stop verification, work holding, chip handling, and grinding-wheel inspection).
- Maintain a laminated process and safety reference card with every TechR2 machine and system.
- Support facility management in following proper operating procedures, workplace-safety requirements, and applicable regulatory compliance (OSHA).
- Exercise stop-work authority: stop production when an unsafe condition exists and report injuries, near-misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.
