As a Programmer Analyst, you'll work at the intersection of business and technology, partnering with stakeholders to design, build, and optimize enterprise applications that improve how work gets done.
The Programmer Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting technical solutions that address complex business needs. Working closely with process owners, the Programmer Analyst learns and understands business requirements, analyzes available data, and determines the optimal technical solution. This role serves as a critical bridge between business and technology teams, translating business needs into actionable technical requirements and delivering solutions from initial concept through post-production support.
This position is a hybrid opportunity located in our corporate offices in either Columbus, OH or Crystal City, VA.
As a Programmer Analyst, the selected individual will design and deliver end-to-end technical solutions to support complex business processes. Responsibilities may include:

Develop proof-of-concepts to validate understanding of complex business requirements, iterating to refine and finalize solution design

Design, configure, customize, and develop Salesforce solutions using declarative and programmatic capabilities, including Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Visualforce, Flow, and platform integrations

Apply configuration changes and develop new code in alignment with architectural, governance, and information security requirements

Facilitate information-gathering sessions with process owners to analyze processes, identify challenges, and surface opportunities for improvement

Liaise with business and technology staff to build relationships and develop a thorough understanding of business requirements and technology roadmap

Translate business requirements into technical requirements and actionable development tasks

Design and implement integrations between Salesforce and enterprise applications using APIs, middleware, and cloud services
-
Determine which business requirements fit within a proposed solution and develop best-fit recommendations to address process and systems gaps

Develop detailed estimates for schedule, labor, and contractor needs

Adhere to project management methodology and produce all required artifacts and documentation

Support functional end-users following deployment and participate in continuous process improvement initiatives and new requirements development

Provide guidance, advice, and training to less experienced staff members
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related discipline; five years of experience as developer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

3+ years of experience designing, customizing, implementing, integrating, and supporting Salesforce solutions, including Sales Cloud, and Marketing Cloud, or related Salesforce technologies in an enterprise environment

Hands-on experience developing Salesforce applications using Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Visualforce, Salesforce Flow, SOQL, and REST/SOAP APIs

Experience designing and implementing integrations between Salesforce and other enterprise platforms, including ERP, data warehouse, identity management, and cloud-based solutions

Experience with application lifecycle management, source control, CI/CD pipelines, testing, deployment automation, and release management for Salesforce solutions

Strong understanding of enterprise application architecture, security, data modeling, governance, and platform best practices
-
Ability to work closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements, analyze processes, and translate business needs into scalable technical solutions

- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform technologies, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio, Dataverse, and Power BI

Salesforce certifications such as Platform Developer I/II, Application Architect, System Architect, Administrator, or related credentials

Background supporting, developing, and migrating Microsoft Power Platform / Dynamics 365 solutions

Experience with commercial ERP systems and enterprise application integrations

Experience working in hybrid Salesforce and Microsoft application ecosystems

Background that would not preclude the granting of a security clearance
Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $81,600 – $116,300 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
