Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions in an outpatient behavioral health setting. This position is responsible for conducting comprehensive nursing assessments, administering medications, coordinating medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and collaborating with the interdisciplinary treatment team to deliver safe, effective, and person-centered care. The RN plays a critical role in supporting patient recovery through clinical interventions, patient education, crisis management, and maintenance of a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented environment. This position is not assigned to a single location — the RN will train at both the Franklinton and Whitehall locations and may be assigned to either site based on business need.
Core Responsibilities:
Clinical Assessment & Patient Care

Conduct initial nursing assessments including medical history, current medications, vital signs, and substance use history

Perform ongoing nursing evaluations and reassessments to monitor patient progress and identify changes in clinical status
-
Monitor and document vital signs and patient responses to treatment interventions
-
Provide direct nursing care including wound care, injection administration, and management of acute medical concerns within scope of practice
-
Respond to medical emergencies, provide crisis intervention, and coordinate emergency care as needed
-
Conduct individual nursing visits to address patient health concerns, medication questions, and treatment barriers
Medication Management
-
Administer medications as ordered by prescribing providers and document administration accurately and timely
-
Monitor therapeutic responses to medications and report adverse reactions or concerns to the prescribing provider
-
Educate patients on medication purpose, administration, side effects, and adherence strategies
-
Coordinate and complete prior authorizations for medications and injections including Vivitrol and Sublocade
-
Communicate with pharmacies to call in prescriptions, resolve medication issues, and support continuity of care
-
Run Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS) reports as indicated and share findings with the prescribing provider
-
Maintain accurate medication inventory and support compliance with controlled substance regulations
Collaborative Care & Documentation
-
Collaborate with the Clinical Director, counselors, case managers, and medical providers to develop and implement individualized patient care plans
-
Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and provide nursing input on patient progress and clinical needs
-
Document all nursing encounters, assessments, interventions, and patient interactions in the EHR in accordance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements
-
Interpret and report results of urine drug screens (UDS), breathalyzer tests, and oral swab tests to clinical staff and providers
-
Assist case management with referrals to primary care physicians, dental services, specialty providers, and higher levels of care when clinically indicated
Patient & Family Education
-
Facilitate or co-facilitate patient education groups 3–5 days per week on topics including:

Personal hygiene and self-care
-
Medication management and adherence
-
Nutrition and healthy lifestyle
-
Chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension, hepatitis C, HIV)
-
Harm reduction strategies and relapse prevention
-
Provide individualized health education to patients and families regarding substance use disorders, co-occurring conditions, and wellness
-
Educate patients on community resources, public health services, and self-advocacy
Compliance & Quality Assurance
-
Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality in accordance with 42 CFR Part 2
-
Adhere to CARF accreditation standards, OhioMHAS regulations, and Medicaid provider requirements
-
Complete all required annual competencies including CPR/BLS, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Narcan administration, HIPAA, infection control, and trauma-informed care
-
Maintain current nursing license, certifications, and continuing education requirements
-
Participate in quality improvement and performance improvement activities as assigned
Job Duties:

Source and administer medications as ordered; document all administration accurately in the EHR
-
Administer Vivitrol intramuscular injections and monitor patients for adverse reactions
-
Complete prior authorizations for MAT medications and injectable formulations
-
Run OARRS reports and communicate findings to prescribing providers
-
Facilitate patient education groups 3–5 days per week across assigned location(s)

Conduct nursing assessments, vital signs, wound care, and other clinical procedures within scope of practice

Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency care as needed

Document all patient interactions and clinical encounters in the EHR in a timely and thorough manner

Communicate with pharmacies and support medication continuity for all MAT patients
-
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and provide clinical input on patient progress

Maintain medication inventory and controlled substance compliance
-
Provide nursing coverage at both the Franklinton and Whitehall locations as directed
-
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Medical Director or executive leadership
Education and Experience:
Education
-
Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program (required)
Licensure & Certification
-
Current, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio (required)
-
Current BLS or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (required)
-
National Provider Identifier (NPI) number (required upon hire or within 30 days)
-
Ohio Medicaid provider enrollment and billing number (required upon hire or within 60 days)
Experience
-
Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience in addiction treatment, mental health, emergency medicine, or related healthcare setting (preferred)
-
Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions (preferred)
-
Familiarity with MAT medications including buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone (preferred)
-
Knowledge of ASAM criteria and levels of care (preferred)
Background & Screening Requirements

Successful completion of criminal background check in compliance with OhioMHAS and CARF standards

Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen. Any controlled substances detected must be supported by valid, current prescription documentation.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching to provide direct patient care

Ability to sit for extended periods during documentation and group facilitation (up to 2–4 hours)

Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25–50 pounds occasionally
-
Manual dexterity required for administering injections, drawing medications, and performing clinical procedures

Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to read medication labels, interpret lab results, and communicate effectively (with or without corrective devices)

Work is performed in an outpatient behavioral health clinic setting at BRC’s Franklinton and Whitehall locations

Exposure to patients in various stages of substance use and mental health challenges; potential exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids; PPE required

Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities

May require occasional extended hours, weekend coverage, or travel between locations during work hours

POPULATION SERVED
Basecamp Recovery Center serves individuals in recovery from substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Team members should be comfortable working with patients at various stages of recovery, including those who may be actively using substances, experiencing mental health crises, or managing medical complications related to their conditions.
