Full Job Description

Recovery Housing and Case Management Specialist

Company: Highlife Sober Living / Highlife Recovery
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

Highlife Sober Living is seeking a dependable, organized, and recovery-oriented professional to serve as a Recovery Housing and Case Management Specialist.

The employee’s primary responsibilities will involve supporting the day-to-day operation of Highlife Sober Living, including completing new participant intakes, monitoring program compliance, addressing behavioral and rule-related concerns, preparing behavioral contracts, coordinating suspensions or other disciplinary actions, and assisting with the logistical needs of the sober living program.

The employee may also provide case management services through Highlife Recovery, including helping clients access community resources, coordinate appointments, address barriers to treatment, and follow through with needs identified by the clinical team.

This is not primarily a counseling position. The ideal candidate will be comfortable maintaining appropriate boundaries, enforcing program expectations consistently, documenting significant events, and working directly with individuals in early recovery.

Primary Responsibilities

Recovery Housing Responsibilities

Complete new participant intakes, orientations, and required admission documentation.
Review sober living rules, fees, expectations, curfews, phase requirements, and participant responsibilities.
Help coordinate participant move-ins, room assignments, transportation needs, and other housing logistics.
Monitor participant compliance with sober living policies and individualized program expectations.
Address rule violations, behavioral concerns, interpersonal conflicts, and other participant issues.
Prepare and review behavioral contracts, relapse contracts, written notices, and corrective-action plans.
Coordinate participant suspensions, temporary removals, referrals to higher levels of care, and program discharges under the direction of management.
Conduct participant check-ins and provide recovery-oriented support and accountability.
Assist with house meetings, participant concerns, drug-screen coordination, and verification of program requirements.
Document incidents, rule violations, interventions, participant contacts, and follow-up actions.
Communicate significant concerns to sober living leadership and, when appropriate, the participant’s treatment team.
Assist with transportation, appointment coordination, supply needs, property concerns, and other day-to-day operational matters.
Maintain professional boundaries while treating participants with dignity, fairness, and respect.
Respond appropriately to crises, suspected substance use, medical concerns, and other urgent situations.

Case Management Responsibilities

Provide case management services to assigned Highlife Recovery clients within the employee’s training, credentials, and assigned scope.
Help clients identify and address barriers related to housing, transportation, employment, identification documents, food, benefits, medical care, and other basic needs.
Connect clients with community resources and help them complete referrals or applications.
Coordinate care with counselors, medical providers, probation officers, community agencies, and other approved supports when appropriate releases are in place.
Assist clients with scheduling and following through with medical, behavioral health, legal, and social-service appointments.
Document case management services accurately and within required timeframes.
Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training, and care coordination as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience in sober living, behavioral health, substance-use treatment, recovery support, case management, residential services, or a related field strongly preferred.
CDCA, peer recovery supporter certification, social-work assistant registration, or another relevant credential is preferred but not required, depending on experience and assigned duties.
Personal experience with recovery may be valuable but is not required.
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record required.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and organizational policies.
Ability to document incidents and participant interactions clearly, objectively, and promptly.
Strong organizational, communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional when addressing rule violations, emotionally charged situations, or participant crises.
Willingness to work some evenings, weekends, or on-call hours based on program needs.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is compassionate but firm, comfortable enforcing rules, and able to balance participant support with accountability. This person should be organized, dependable, emotionally steady, and capable of making sound decisions in a fast-moving recovery-housing environment.

The successful candidate will understand that supporting recovery does not mean avoiding difficult conversations. The role requires consistent follow-through, clear boundaries, respectful communication, and timely involvement of management when significant concerns arise.
