Overview

We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Sous Chef to join our culinary team. In this vital role, you will support the Executive Chef in managing kitchen operations, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, safety, and service. Your leadership will inspire our kitchen staff and uphold our commitment to excellence in every dish served.

RESPONSIBILITIES

o Supervise kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient food preparation and service.

o Uphold CBC Beer Hall’s quality and presentation standards for all menu items.

o Interview, onboard, train, mentor, and provide feedback to kitchen team members to promote growth and consistency.

o Assist in creating prep schedules and managing task prioritization to meet service demands.

o Actively participate in the inventory process as directed by the Executive Chef, including counting, organizing, and maintaining accurate stock levels to support kitchen efficiency and cost control.

o Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards throughout the kitchen.

o Serve as the primary point of contact for all BOH interpersonal staff matters, including call offs, disciplinary actions, and terminations, in partnership with the Executive Chef.

o Help create projections for labor and schedules on time with consideration of forecasts, events, and talent.

o Address and resolve any kitchen issues promptly, including equipment malfunctions and staffing concerns.

o Assist with menu updates, recipe adjustments, and implementing seasonal or promotional items.

o Lead by example during service, working on the line and assisting with high-volume shifts as needed.

o Complete opening and closing duties, including preparing reports and maintaining organized records.

REQUIREMENTS

o SERV Safe certification.

o Proven experience in a kitchen role, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

o Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food preparation, and safety standards.

o Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.

o Ability to multitask and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.

o Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role is performed in a busy restaurant and brewery environment and requires regular physical activity. The physical demands and work conditions described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position:

o Standing and walking for extended periods throughout the shift

o Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 50 pounds including kegs, cases, and supplies.

o Ability to climb stairs and maneuver through tight or crowded service areas

o Exposure to wet floors, temperature changes, elevated noise levels, and strong aromas typical of a brewpub environment.

o Working around hot liquids, glassware, cleaning chemicals, and bar equipment while following all safety procedures.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
