Senior Construction Scheduler
About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established commercial general contractor in the Columbus market, is looking to bring its scheduling capabilities in-house and hire someone who can take genuine ownership of the function.
Historically, the company has relied heavily on outside scheduling support. This hire will be the internal authority on scheduling, working directly with project teams and leadership to improve how schedules are developed, maintained, communicated, and utilized across the business.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced construction scheduler who wants more than responsibility for updating schedules behind the scenes. You will have the visibility and influence to shape the company’s overall approach to scheduling, establish procedures, introduce greater consistency across projects, and potentially build an internal team around you as the function grows.
The company has a strong backlog of large-scale commercial work, with projects commonly ranging from $60M to $100M+. They are looking for someone who wants to become a long-term part of the organization and build something meaningful rather than step into an already established department with rigid processes.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Build the function: Help bring scheduling in-house and define how it operates across the company
- Meaningful ownership: Establish standards, procedures, templates, reporting practices, and best practices
- High visibility: Work directly with project executives, operations leaders, project managers, superintendents, and senior leadership
- Influence project delivery: Become a trusted partner who helps teams plan proactively, identify risk, and make informed decisions
- Long-term growth: As the scheduling function develops, there is potential to build and lead an internal team
- Complex commercial work: Support a stable backlog of large commercial projects, generally ranging from $60M to $100M+
- Established platform: Join a respected contractor with long-standing market relationships, strong resources, and a commitment to continued growth
The Role
The Senior Construction Scheduler will serve as the company’s primary internal scheduling resource across preconstruction and active construction.
You will partner closely with project teams to develop realistic and effective schedules, evaluate progress, identify critical-path risks, and improve accountability throughout the project lifecycle. Just as importantly, you will help create a consistent company-wide scheduling approach that supports both field execution and leadership decision-making.
The initial focus will be on understanding current practices, supporting key projects, and developing stronger internal processes. Over time, the role is expected to become a broader scheduling leadership position with influence across the organization.
Key Areas of Impact
- Lead the development and maintenance of schedules for large-scale commercial construction projects
- Partner with project executives, project managers, superintendents, and preconstruction teams throughout the project lifecycle
- Improve consistency and accountability around schedule development, updates, reporting, and communication
- Identify schedule risk, critical-path impacts, procurement concerns, and recovery opportunities
- Establish internal scheduling procedures, templates, standards, and best practices
- Support teams with schedule strategy, sequencing, phasing, and project planning
- Provide clear schedule reporting and insight to operations and executive leadership
- Help strengthen scheduling knowledge and capabilities across project teams
- Evaluate the future structure and resources needed to grow the internal scheduling function
- Potentially recruit, develop, and lead additional scheduling professionals as the department expands
What Will Make Someone Successful
The right person will bring strong scheduling experience within commercial general contracting and understand how schedules connect to real-world project execution.
This opportunity is best suited for someone who is comfortable being both hands-on and strategic. You should be able to build and analyze detailed schedules while also partnering effectively with field teams, project leadership, and executives.
Experience supporting large commercial projects is important. The company’s work is primarily within traditional commercial and institutional construction rather than data centers or mission-critical facilities.
Most importantly, the company is looking for someone who wants ownership, enjoys creating structure, and is motivated by the opportunity to build a lasting internal function.
