Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in a correctional oncology unit, requiring Epic experience and an OH or compact RN license.

Details

Hospital-based Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a secure corrections environment for Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) inmates
Unit operates as a locked, access-controlled environment managed by Corrections Officers (COs)
CO-to-inmate ratio is 1:2; nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for PCU and 1:4–5 for MS
Shifts may be assigned to either MS or PCU depending on scheduling needs
Patient population includes active oncology diagnoses and treatments (solid tumors, hematology), oncology workup admissions, and non-oncology diagnoses such as COPD, sepsis, surgical procedures, pneumonia, and abnormal labs
Key skills include telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central/PICC line management, hemodialysis care, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy management, PCA, heparin protocols, and ABG interpretation
Documentation system: Epic (experience required); Medication system: Pyxis
Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
If assigned a day/night rotating contract, shift assignments (days, nights, or a combination) are determined by department needs and reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
Weekend shift requirements vary based on unit needs
Floating to various oncology Med/Surg units is required

Requirements

Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
Current BLS certification required
Epic EMR experience required
Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience required
Oncology experience preferred but not required
Proficiency with telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
Experience with central lines, PICC lines, blood product administration, and IV therapy
2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Additional Information

Staff safety protocols are observed within the secure corrections unit environment
Support services on unit include interpretation services, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response teams, respiratory services, social services, and patient transportation
All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
No 30-day break between assignments is required when changing representation for this facility (exception: Sterile Processing Techs still require a 30-day break)
