Full Job Description

Position Summary

The SUD Clinical Lead serves as the day-to-day clinical leader for the Substance Use Disorder program. This individual provides direct oversight and support to clinicians, ensures high-quality client care, maintains documentation compliance, and helps oversee the daily clinical operations of the program. The Clinical Lead works closely with leadership to ensure services are delivered according to OhioMHAS, ODM, CARF, and agency standards while promoting a positive, collaborative treatment environment.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership

Provide daily supervision and support to 1–2 SUD clinicians.
Assist clinicians with difficult clinical situations, treatment planning, ASAM placement, and discharge planning.
Ensure clients receive appropriate, individualized care.
Meet with clients as needed to address concerns, barriers, or clinical needs.
Assist with client orientation, engagement, and retention.

Daily Operations

Help oversee daily programming and workflow.
Ensure groups, individual sessions, and required services are completed as scheduled.
Coordinate with Operations, Case Management, Nursing, Housing, and Peer Support staff.
Monitor clinician schedules and productivity.
Help resolve day-to-day clinical and operational issues.

Documentation & Compliance

Review clinician documentation for accuracy, completeness, and medical necessity.
Verify assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, ASAM documentation, and discharge paperwork are completed timely.
Ensure documentation meets ODM, OhioMHAS, Medicaid, CARF, and agency standards.
Provide coaching and corrective feedback regarding documentation quality.
Assist with internal audits and quality improvement initiatives.

Direct Client Care

Maintain a small caseload as assigned.
Complete assessments, treatment plans, individual counseling sessions, group counseling, crisis intervention, and other billable clinical services as appropriate.
Participate in treatment team meetings and case consultations.

Staff Development

Mentor and support new clinicians.
Assist with onboarding and clinical training.
Promote evidence-based practices and professional growth.
Foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive workplace culture.

Collaboration

Communicate regularly with agency leadership regarding program performance.
Identify barriers to client success and recommend improvements.
Assist in implementing new clinical processes, policies, and quality initiatives.

QualificationsRequired

CDCA, LCDC II, LCDC III, LICDC, or higher in the State of Ohio.
Knowledge of ASAM Criteria and substance use treatment.
Experience documenting within an electronic health record.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced treatment environment.

Preferred

Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
Experience with Medicaid documentation and billing requirements.
Knowledge of OhioMHAS, ODM, and CARF standards.
Experience in PHP, IOP, and outpatient treatment programs.
