Definition:
Under general supervision, is responsible for assisting teachers with academic tasks, supporting appropriate student behavior and teaching appropriate behavior to students placed in the Social Emotional Learning Center, while assuring the safety of special education students; performs related duties as required.
This job posting is for a competitive position which requires a Training and Experience Assessment. When vacancies occur in this classification, the names of all candidates who pass this assessment will be forwarded to hiring managers, based on score ranking. The examination process will consist of a Training and Experience Assessment. The assessment will be provided to candidates who pass the application review process.

Substitute Classroom Intervention Aide:
Substitute Classroom Intervention Aide positions are temporary, as-needed positions and are not eligible for benefits . Substitute positions may provide an opportunity to be considered for a permanent position when vacancies become available; however, employment as a substitute does not guarantee permanent employment. Applicants who indicate an interest in substitute employment and successfully complete the required assessment will be referred to Substitute Services for consideration of substitute employment opportunities.
EXAMPLES OF WORK (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

· Assists with teaching activities under the direct supervision of a certified teacher;
· Assists teachers, administrators, and school staff in supporting appropriate student behavior in school buildings, on school grounds, during school trips and on school buses during transport;
· Verbally intervenes with students in a Social Emotional Learning Center (K-12) when necessary;
· Physically intervenes with students in a Social Emotional Learning Center (K-12) if student is physically harmful to self or others;
· Uses CPI when necessary, using non-offensive verbal and/or physical mediation skills;
· Talks with students to ascertain specific information concerning problems and to assist them in developing an appropriate behavior plan;
· Works 1:1 and in small groups with students to support academic tasks or social-emotional learning occasionally;
· Attend training meetings concerning the needs of students in a Social Emotional Learning Center students and other related subjects;
· Participates in parent and administrator conferences when requested;
· Escorts students to administrator’s office for counseling or discipline when needed, reports details to administrator;
Minimum Qualifications and Licensure Requirements
- Must have an Associate's degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher learning. OR
- Have at least 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Alternative Qualification:
- Pass the Ohio Department of Education approved Parapro examination administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) or by the Ohio State University (OSU), and possess a high school diploma or GED recognized by the Ohio Department of Education. * To take the Parapro exam, contact ETS at ( escco.org or 614-542-4111). The test is $55.
- Or to take the Parapro, register with OSU at ( https://www2.registerblast.com/theosu/Exam/List ). There is a $25 administrative fee an additional $55 test fee.
Must obtain an Educational Aide Permit issued by the State Board of Education prior to start date.
Possession of the Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification required by the end of the probationary period. (CPI Training will be provided by the Special Education Department).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of procedures and methods of monitoring and caring for students in a Social Emotional Learning Center; knowledge of methods for physically restraining BED students; ability to deal effectively with students in a Social Emotional Learning Center; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to physically restrain BED students of up to 21 years of age when necessary; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, administrators, students and parents.
