Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.
From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.
Roku's Web Engineering team develops and operates Roku's web application framework, design system, consumer-facing web properties, and a broad ecosystem of services tied to content management, automated publishing, localization, deployment, and build tooling. Our goal is to enable teams to ship secure, accessible, resilient, and high-performance web experiences at scale with strong Roku brand and UX consistency.
Roku is seeking a highly skilled senior engineer to lead high-impact web platform work across technically complex systems. In this role, you will migrate legacy systems safely, design and evolve cloud-native service architecture, and make strong technical decisions under delivery pressure. You are hands-on in code while also contributing at the architecture and cross-team delivery levels. You can break ambiguous problems into executable increments, communicate trade-offs clearly, and raise quality standards for both code and systems. This is a role where technical depth, ownership, and cross-functional collaboration are essential to success.
- Lead migration and modernisation initiatives for large web systems and services with clear rollback and risk mitigation strategies
- Design and implement scalable cloud and microservice architectures that support millions of users
- Write clean, maintainable code and set a high bar for code quality, review rigor, and engineering standards
- Define and drive test strategy across unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end layers, including CI quality gates and release checks
- Build and operate production-ready systems with observability (logs, metrics, tracing) and reliability patterns (timeouts, retries, backoff, idempotency)
- Diagnose and improve end-to-end request flows from frontend calls through DNS/network layers, services, and data stores
- Partner across engineering and product to shape architecture proposals, sequence delivery, and manage dependencies and risks
- Lead incident response and post-incident follow-through with clear communication, action ownership, and measurable improvements
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and pragmatic decision-making on scope, quality, and speed
- Extensive software engineering experience (typically 8+ years) in platform, distributed systems, or full-stack web engineering
- Experience leading large-scale migrations (monolith to services, platform re-architecture, major framework upgrades, data/service decomposition)
- Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web frameworks (React, Next.js, Angular, Node.js, Express)
- Familiarity with frontend architecture best practices (composition patterns, state/data modeling, component system design, and accessibility)
- Experience designing microservice systems, including service boundaries, sync vs async integration patterns, and failure-mode handling
- Working knowledge of cloud architecture with the ability to make clear cost, performance, and complexity trade-offs across hosting and runtime options
- Understanding of databases and data architecture choices (SQL vs NoSQL, caching layers, and data access patterns)
- Track record of tuning performance and reliability for highly available services and web applications
- Familiarity with web security fundamentals and secure engineering practices
- Experience using modern AI-assisted and agentic development workflows in day-to-day engineering
- Equivalent practical experience or a BS/MS degree in Computer Science

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.
We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
