Full Job Description

The role in one line

Own a major piece of our monthly close and our financial reporting — not just record the numbers, but stand behind them, explain them, and improve how they get produced.

About Equity West Capital

Equity West Capital invests in and manages residential, commercial, and mixed-use real estate. Our accounting function is small, capable, and central to how the business makes decisions. We're hiring a senior accountant who can operate with real independence and raise the bar for the whole team.

What you'll own

A major section of the month-end close, start to finish, with minimal oversight
Design and maintenance of the QuickBooks chart of accounts, class structure, and accounting workflows
Preparation of complex and non-routine entries — accruals, allocations, intercompany activity, and unusual or one-off transactions
Review and approval of complex journal entries prepared by junior staff
Investigating and resolving complex reconciliation differences, and identifying the systemic issues behind them
Determining the correct accounting treatment under GAAP and company policy, and independently researching and resolving accounting issues
Preparation of financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and review of them for accuracy, reasonableness, and trends before management receives them
Presenting financials to leadership and explaining the story behind the numbers
Developing and documenting accounting procedures and internal controls
Mentoring and training junior accounting staff, and reviewing their work
Supporting and helping prepare for audits

This is more than a data-entry role

We're looking for a problem solver. When something doesn't tie out or isn't clearly covered by policy, we expect you to research it, make a reasoned call, and be able to defend it — then present clean, decision-ready financials. If your strength is high-volume transaction processing rather than analysis, ownership, and reporting, this likely isn't the right seat.

Minimum requirements

Candidates must meet all of the following to be considered:

4–8 years of full-cycle accounting experience (minimum 4)
Minimum 3 years of hands-on QuickBooks experience
Demonstrated experience preparing AND reviewing financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
Track record of independently owning a section of month-end close
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field

Also strongly preferred

Real estate accounting experience (property management, impounds, intercompany, dispositions)
Advanced Excel
Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff
Experience in AI-driven process improvement
