Financial Advocate — What you’ll do (and why it matters)

As a Financial Advocate, you’re part coach, part problem-solver, part trusted guide. You’ll help members navigate everyday banking and big life moments—by listening well, asking great questions, and offering solutions that are convenient, accessible, affordable, and always in the member’s best interest.

You’ll deliver exceptional service, meet goals the right way, and help our members build stronger financial futures—while helping CWCU build stronger communities.

The good stuff: Benefits & Incentives

Here’s what comes with the role:

Vacation: 2 weeks your first year, 3 weeks your second, and 4 weeks starting year three
10 paid holidays each year
5 paid sick days annually
Medical, dental, and vision start the first of the month after your hire date
Semi-annual incentive: 2.5% (5% annually) of your annual salary based on CWCU achieving strategic organizational goals
401(k) with match after 6 months:
100% match on the first 3%
50% match on the next 2%

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

40% — Member Financial Advocacy & Education

Be a member’s go-to advocate: learn their goals, spot opportunities, and recommend solutions that save time, save money, or build financial confidence—with integrity and respect.
Turn everyday conversations into “wow, that was helpful” moments through education, great communication, and real relationship-building.
Help members get comfortable with self-service tools and tech—patiently, clearly, and without making anyone feel silly for asking.
Keep learning (because financial life is never one-size-fits-all): credit building, mortgages, debt consolidation, savings, retirement, business banking, budgeting, and digital solutions.

40% — Sales & Service Excellence

Build rapport fast, ask smart questions, recommend the right solutions, handle concerns with confidence, and help members make decisions they feel good about.
Own your goals (and support the team’s) for membership, deposits, and lending growth—through service that’s ethical, helpful, and human.
Create memorable experiences—measured through products per household, loan products with debt protection, and strong Net Promoter Scores.

10% — Operations & Compliance

Follow up on time, document accurately, and keep the details clean—because strong service needs strong execution.
Pitch in with branch duties: tellering, lobby management, opening/closing, problem-solving, and being an all-around steady teammate.
Complete required trainings and stay current with best practices.
Follow CWCU policies, State/Federal regulations, and information protection requirements—protecting member trust like it’s our job (because it is).

10% — Member Engagement & Problem Resolution

Participate in outreach like outbound calling, community engagement, and financial education—representing CWCU with compassion.
Own member questions and concerns through resolution: listen, investigate, communicate clearly, and follow through.
Jump in where needed—flexibility and a good attitude go a long way here.

Qualifications (what helps you succeed)

Familiarity with credit union products: loans, deposit accounts, savings options
Understanding the difference between banks and credit unions
Comfortable learning multiple systems/platforms quickly
Strong verbal and written communication in English (you can explain money stuff without making it feel like homework)
Relationship-builder who earns trust and keeps it
Able to assess needs and offer solutions aligned to member goals
Team-first mindset; professional and dependable
Organized, accurate, able to prioritize and manage a high volume of transactions
Strong active listening, problem-solving, and de-escalation skills
Goal-driven and motivated to exceed expectations
Flexible schedule to meet branch/member needs
Bilingual preferred (may qualify for language proficiency pay)

Education & Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required
3+ years in customer service or sales required
Strong consultative/relationship-based sales skills
Financial services experience preferred
Proven track record of great service and goal achievement
Working knowledge of computers, word processing, and spreadsheets
Working knowledge of applicable State/Federal regulations for consumer lending and savings

Compensation

$18.48–$23.35 per hour
