Full Job Description

President and CEO at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery

Highland Memorial Park Cemetery located at 1 Rhode Island Avenue, Johnston RI is a non-denominational cemetery situated on 150 acres. The Corporation was established in 1931 and features a park-like landscape with over 28,000 burials which are maintained in perpetuity.

The president and CEO of the Cemetery should be someone who can meet the following objectives and who contains the skill set to not only manage the day to day operations of the Cemetery, but someone who can also assist and guide families as they deal with the loss of a loved one.

1. Strategic & Financial Management:

a. Have the ability to develop and execute short-term and long-term strategic plans that ensure the Cemetery’s financial stability.

b. Prepare, manage, and oversee the annual budget, capital expenditures (i.e. mausoleum, chapel, land development, and heavy equipment), and plot pricing/sales.

c. Work with the financial advisors and monitor the performance of the perpetual care funds to guarantee the viability of the Cemetery property and the grounds.

d. Work with and report directly to the Board of Directors to provide periodic updates on the financial position of the Cemetery and the operations.

2. Operations and Maintenance:

a. Ability to manage and lead administrative, sales, and maintenance personnel. The direct supervision of the maintenance personnel is the responsibility of the Superintendent who reports to the President/CEO.

b. Foster a professional, all inclusive, respectful, and safe working environment for all personnel. Leading by example.

c. Oversee the scheduling and coordination of burials and memorial services with Cemetery staff, grieving families, and local funeral homes.

d. Develop, monitor, and maintain operational policies, procedures, and expansion/renovation initiatives. All policies and procedures are subject to Board approval and adoption. Policies and procedures must also be in compliance with the Corporation’s bylaws.

3. Compliance and Risk Management:

a. Maintain strict adherence to Federal, State, and Local statutes governing Cemetery operations and the perpetual care requirements.

b. Ensure meticulous record-keeping regarding burial rights, plot ownership, and mapping of the Cemetery property.

4. Family & Community Relations:

a. Ensure that Cemetery personal provide compassionate, empathetic customer care to grieving families.

b. Act as the public face of the Cemetery, building beneficial relationships with the local community, funeral homes, mortuaries, governmental agencies, religious and civic organizations.

5. Qualifications & Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree with a major in business administration, finance, and/or management is preferred but not required.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
