The Specialty Gas Technician will report to the Specialty Gas Manager and be responsible for loading and unloading cylinders, filling cylinders, analyzing and certifying high-purity gas mixtures and pure gases, ensuring they meet strict quality control standards. Utilizing instrumentation like gas chromatography to verify product quality, prepare certification reports, and ensure compliance with safety protocols. This role requires a focus on precision and safety.
Essential Functions
- Perform analytical testing of specialty gas mixtures and pure gases using gas chromatography and other analytical instruments.
- Review production records, perform leak checks, and approve or reject gas batches in accordance with established quality standards.
- Prepare accurate gas analysis documentation and certification reports.
- Maintain laboratory and analytical equipment, including gas calibration systems, filling equipment and other related instrumentation.
- Ensure compliance with company quality programs, safety policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Safely load and unload empty and full cylinders onto pallets.
- Prepare, fill, and blend high-pressure pure and mixed gases and stage finished products for shipment.
- Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, FDA, and DOT requirements.
- Enforce safety protocols and promptly report incidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions to the Manager and Safety Manager.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree (A.A. or A.S.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; OR four to six years related Industry experience and/or training; An equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and skills will also be considered.
- Working knowledge of industrial and specialty gases.
- Prior experience working in a warehouse distribution setting preferred.
- Welding, specialty gases or industry knowledge.
- Forklift certification preferred but not required.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Ability to work independently, maintain composure, and perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry 50-75 pounds and safely push or pull loads up to 1,000 pounds using appropriate equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound operational and distribution decisions using logical analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and move throughout the facility for extended periods on a continuous basis.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and continuous learning.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 100°F.
- Comfortable working in environments with elevated noise levels that may require raised voices for effective communication.
- Ability to work safely in environments that may include exposure to moving mechanical equipment, powered industrial vehicles, and other warehouse-related hazards.
Pay Range
- $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 Annually
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
- This is a full-time exempt position based out of Weldstar's University Park, Illinois location. Operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30pm.
