Overview
Join our vibrant summer camp team at DEC Camp Rushford in Caneadea, NY, as a Summer Camp Cook, where your culinary skills will feed and nourish young campers and staff alike! In this lively role, you’ll be responsible for preparing delicious, nutritious meals that keep everyone energized for fun-filled days. Your culinary expertise and attention to food safety will ensure a positive dining experience, fostering a welcoming environment where campers can thrive. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your kitchen skills while making a meaningful impact in a dynamic camp setting.

On-site accommodation available if desired!

Responsibilities

Prepare and cook a variety of meals and snacks tailored to the dietary needs of children and staff
Plan menus that balance nutrition, variety, and appeal, adhering to dietary guidelines and safety standards
Assist with food prep activities such as chopping, portioning, and assembling ingredients for daily meals
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, ensuring all food handling procedures meet health regulations
Serve meals in a friendly, efficient manner that encourages positive dining experiences for campers
Monitor inventory levels, restock supplies as needed, and assist with ordering food items when necessary
Follow all food safety protocols, including proper storage, sanitation practices, and allergen management

Requirements:

2 years of experience in the storage, preparation, cooking, and dispensing of food.
Associate's or higher degree in a culinary field will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong background in food preparation, cooking, and meal service within the food industry or restaurant settings
Knowledge of menu planning, catering, and food handling best practices
Excellent knife skills and proficiency in food safety standards to ensure hygienic meal preparation
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining attention to detail
Passion for working with children and creating enjoyable mealtime experiences
A valid driver's license is preferred
