PART-TIME TRANSIT OPERATOR
Hourly Rate Range: $18 - $19.80
Encompass Community Supports (ECS) is hiring Part-Time Transit Operators to work from our Culpeper location and driving in Orange, Madison, Culpeper, Rappahannock, and Fauquier Counties.
Encompass Community Supports (ECS) is a Virginia State community services organization that improves the quality of life in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock Counties by providing comprehensive mental health, substance use, developmental disability, housing, children’s and aging services. Our non-profit organization qualifies for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, allowing eligible employees to potentially receive student loan forgiveness. ECS is also a registered site for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment plan.
Part-Time Transit Operators provide mobility service for individuals to maximize their potential for independence, improved quality of life, and aging in place.
SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transporting older adults and individuals with disabilities to designated locations; and delivers mail and packages to program sites.
- Assisting clients with boarding and getting off vehicles, including operating vehicle wheelchair lift equipment when needed.
- Loading and unloading meals and cases of drinks and delivering meals and drinks to client residences.
- Completes general maintenance, pre-trip maintenance and safety inspections on vehicles and performs general maintenance tasks or coordinates for vehicle service as needed.
- Documents mileage readings for riders on manifest log and completes other record keeping requirements.
- Secures, moves, and maneuvers passengers in wheelchairs as needed.
- Operates 2-way radios to communicate with agency base for coordination of route.
- Assists with training of new drivers and cross-training of routes.
- Performs general office assistance work as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations. Ability to operate passenger vehicles and related equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ability to remain alert and to remain calm during the periods of stress,
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and associates.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma
- Valid Virginia driver’s license
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- 1 year driving experience.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience operating passenger vehicles or similar equipment.
- Spanish speaking is a plus
