Seeking an experienced and collaborative Senior Grant Accountant to lead the financial management and compliance of a diverse portfolio of federal, state, and private grants. This role is critical to ensuring the organization maintains the highest standards of fiscal stewardship while supporting programs that positively impact thousands of children and families throughout Georgia. The Senior Grant Accountant serves as the organization's subject matter expert on grant accounting and compliance, partnering closely with program leadership, finance staff, and external funding agencies. This individual will oversee grant financial reporting, monitor budgets, ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance and grant agreements, support the annual Single Audit, and identify opportunities to improve grant management processes and internal controls. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting skills with a proactive, customer-focused approach and the ability to translate complex grant requirements into practical guidance for program teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
GRANT FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, REPORTING & ANALYSIS
- Manage the financial administration of a portfolio of federal, state, local, and private grants from award through closeout.
- Establish grant budgets, funding sources, and reporting structures within the accounting system.
- Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets and funding requirements.
- Prepare grant draw requests, reimbursement requests, and financial reports in accordance with sponsor deadlines.
- Analyze spending trends and proactively identify budget risks, recommending corrective actions when necessary.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual grant financial reports.
- Reconcile grant activity to the general ledger and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Assist program leadership with financial forecasting and budget management.
- Develop financial analyses that support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Prepare grant closeout reports and final financial reconciliations.
COMPLIANCE & RISK MANAGEMENT
- Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), grant agreements, agency regulations, and organizational policies.
- Review expenditures for allowability, allocability, reasonableness, and proper documentation.
- Monitor personnel allocations, cost allocations, indirect cost application, and grant restrictions.
- Maintain documentation supporting grant expenditures and financial reporting.
- Recommend and implement improvements to strengthen grant compliance and internal controls.
AUDIT SUPPORT
- Coordinate financial documentation for annual financial statement and Single Audits.
- Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor requests.
- Assist in resolving audit findings and implementing corrective action plans.
- Ensure grant records are complete, organized, and audit-ready throughout the year.
COORDINATION & TECHICAL SUPPORT
- Serve as the primary finance liaison for assigned program leaders.
- Provide training and guidance on grant financial management, budgeting, and compliance.
- Collaborate with Development, Payroll, Human Resources, and Operations to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
- Support the preparation of grant proposal budgets and financial sections of funding applications.
- Identify opportunities to streamline grant accounting processes through automation and technology.
- Develop and document best practices, procedures, and internal controls.
- Assist with implementation and optimization of financial and grant management systems.
- Participate in special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES:
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including at least 3 years of nonprofit grant accounting.
- Demonstrated experience managing federal grant awards and ensuring compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
- Experience preparing grant financial reports, reimbursement requests, and grant budget reconciliations.
- Experience supporting annual financial statement audits and Single Audits (Uniform Guidance Audits).
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), fund accounting, and nonprofit financial reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, financial analysis, and data reconciliation.
- Experience with nonprofit accounting systems (such as Sage Intacct, Blackbaud, MIP, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial staff.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines while working independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments while providing excellent internal customer service.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees and government agency representatives.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Pay Details: $80,000.00 to $90,000.00 per year
