Full Job Description

<Job Overview>
We are seeking an honest, detail-oriented, organized Immigration Legal Assistant "ILA" who is fluent in English and Spanish (speaking, reading, writing) to join our dynamic legal team. Good communication skills are a must as the ILA will have to speak with clients, the attorney, co-workers, and government employees in a confident, clear, honest, courteous manner about complex matters . In this vital role, you will support the attorney by managing immigration-related case files and preparing documentation for a variety of immigration matters with a focus on consular processing and court cases. Being proactive in managing cases is a must to avoid matters falling through the cracks and complying with government deadlines. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your legal expertise within a collaborative and fast-paced environment committed to justice and service in the Houston community and beyond.

<Responsibilities>

Assist attorney with preparing and reviewing immigration petitions, applications, and supporting documents
Manage case files efficiently using google workspace and excel
Interview clients to gather essential information and clarify case details while maintaining professional phone etiquette
Draft immigration applications, correspondence (email and paper), with precision, ensuring accuracy through proofreading and editing
Organize and maintain electronic and physical filing systems in compliance with legal standards
Support administrative tasks including data entry, scheduling appointments, and managing deadlines to ensure smooth office operations

<Requirements>

Paralegal experience or equivalent legal administrative experience in a law office setting
Experience with preparing immigration applications
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently
Effective communication skills for interviewing clients and interacting professionally with team members
Ability to perform detailed document review, drafting, proofreading, transcription, and contract management tasks
Strong clerical skills including data entry, filing, document review, and administrative support functions
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information discreetly while maintaining high levels of confidentiality
