We are seeking a detail-oriented, dependable, and customer-focused Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy team. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Certified Pharmacy Technician assists in providing safe, accurate, and efficient pharmaceutical services and patient care while maintaining full compliance with all applicable state and federal pharmacy regulations, HIPAA requirements, company policies, and other governing bodies.
This position places a strong emphasis on inventory management, medication ordering, invoicing, financial documentation, and medication packaging, while also supporting prescription processing, customer service, and daily pharmacy operations. The ideal candidate is highly organized, customer-focused, able to prioritize multiple responsibilities to ensure smooth pharmacy workflow and thrives in a compassionate and involved healthcare environment with minimal supervision.
- Perform pharmacy technician duties with minimal supervision while working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Receive written and electronic prescriptions and refill requests, ensuring all required information is complete and accurate.
- Enter patient demographics, medical and insurance information, prescription data, provider information, medication profiles, and other needed data into the pharmacy management system accurately.
- Process and bill prescriptions accurately and timely
- Prepare, print, package, label, and document medications accurately and according to physician orders and pharmacy policies.
- Locate, count, pack, and label prescribed medications accurately.
- Count, measure, mix, compound (when applicable), label, and record pharmaceuticals in accordance with prescriptions and applicable regulations.
- Assist pharmacists with medication reconciliation by identifying discrepancies or potential issues prior to the pharmacists final verification.
- Prepare blister packs, unit-dose packaging, and other specialized medication packaging.
- Maintain accurate patient records and pharmacy documentation and comply with all organizational prototcols
- Process prescriptions requests from associated inquiries
- Maintain a professional demeanor while handling telephone calls and serving walk-up clients at our pharmacy
- Respond appropriately to questions or inquiries
- Operate a basic cash register and follow cash control procedures
- Serve as the pharmacys Inventory Specialist by maintaining appropriate inventory levels for medications and pharmacy supplies.
- Order medications and pharmacy supplies from wholesalers and vendors.
- Evaluate prices of medications and supplies among wholesalers and vendors.
- Monitor medication inventory for shortages, backorders, and expiration dates.
- Rotate inventory to minimize waste and ensure medications are used before expiration.
- Update medication acquisition costs using supplier invoices.
- Organize medication returns, recalls, and reverse distribution according to company procedures.
- Serve as the pharmacys Invoicing Specialist by managing financial documentation related to pharmacy operations.
- Submit invoices and statements to Accounting/Billing Departments.
- Prepare and submit daily payment transmittals, including:
- Deposit receipt
- Payment Transmittals
- Daily cash and card reports
- Transaction receipts
- Prepare and execute bank deposits, including:
- Cash and checks
- Deposit tickets
- Bank envelopes
- Organize medication returns and associated documentation for wholesalers, distributors and reverse distributers.
- Maintain accurate records of invoices, payments, and financial transactions.
- Organize and coordinate shipments to county facilities, the behavioral health crisis center, and other authorized locations.
- Ensure medications are packaged, documented, and shipped in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures.
- Provide courteous, professional customer service to patients and healthcare providers.
- Assist clients with prescription pick-up, payment processing, and general pharmacy questions.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly or refer issues to the supervising pharmacist when appropriate.
- Collaborate effectively within the pharmacy team and among other departments in a professional office setting to ensure optimal patient care.
- Maintain a clean, organized, well-stocked and professional pharmacy environment.
- Perform routine tasks such as refilling printer paper and office supplies as needed, checking office mail, maintaining work areas, taking out trash, and other operational duties
- Perform tasks requiring prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive motion.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy of Pharmacist on Duty.
- Manage tasks independently and meet deadlines.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations, pharmacy regulations and company policies
- Comply with Georgia State Board of Pharmacy regulations, federal laws, OSHA requirements, DEA regulations, and company policies.
- Complete required continuing education (CE) hours and annual training
- Maintain active national pharmacy technician certification and Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration.
- Remain fully available to work during all pharmacy operating hours.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current National Pharmacy Technician Certification
- Current Georgia Pharmacy Technician Registration in good standing.
- Previous experience in retail, community, or institutional pharmacy setting.
- Strong computer proficiency and ability to learn pharmacy software.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain a valid drivers license and drive.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards at all times.
- Experience preparing blister packs or unit-dose medications.
- Experience working in a high-volume retail or institutional pharmacy.
- Experience with pharmacy inventory management and purchasing.
- Experience processing invoices, deposits, and financial documentation.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read prescriptions, medication labels and computer screens.
- Manual dexterity required to type, package and prepare medications accurately.
- Some sitting desk work required
- Thorough understanding of pharmacy terminology and medication handling procedures.
- Knowledge of Georgia pharmacy laws and federal pharmacy regulations.
- Strong mathematical skills for medication calculations and inventory reconciliation.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
