Full Job Description

The City of Danville is seeking a Facilities and Grounds Manager! If you're an experienced leader with a passion for public service, project management, and maintaining exceptional community spaces, we want to hear from you.

This professional position is responsible for directing and overseeing the maintenance, operation, and improvement of all City-owned buildings, facilities, grounds, and public spaces. Responsibilities include managing building maintenance, custodial services, parks, swimming pool maintenance, downtown public areas, emergency repairs, and capital improvement projects.

The Manager provides leadership and supervision to assigned staff, coordinates maintenance and improvement activities, and ensures City facilities and public spaces are maintained in a safe, functional, and efficient manner. The position is directly supervised by the Operations Administrator and reports to the Public Works Committee of the City Council.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following examples are illustrative of the work duties and responsibilities.

Manages Building Maintenance and Parks Divisions, as well as Custodians.
Responsible for building and grounds maintenance, repairs, remodels, and additions to all City owned facilities through both internal and external labor forces.
Oversee rentals and leases of all City owned facilities (long term and special event rentals).
Manages downtown landscaping and associated staff.
Manages the budget throughout the fiscal year. Includes submission of all necessary line items transfers, budget amendments and other modifications.
Guides the overall direction of the Divisions with input from the staff. Includes mission statement, establishment of goals, identifying building maintenance and construction needs and activities the Division may assist with and fosters cooperation with other City Divisions.
Analyzes current programs and operations to identify trends, areas in need of improvement and provide recognition of accomplishments.
Establishes departmental policies and procedures in cooperation with staff and City administration.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree or equal experience in facilities management, engineering, construction management, or a closely related field.
At least five (5) years of like experience, including at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Illinois Class D Vehicle Operators License or obtain within 30 days of start.
CPO License within 90 working days.

Required Knowledge and Skills: Employees must possess a basic knowledge of the following skill sets.

Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, interest and similar concepts.
Demonstrate effective communication.
Computer skills, including Word Processing, spreadsheets, and data base development and use.
Strong interpersonal, leadership, analysis and decision-making skills.

Benefits: Eleven (11) paid holidays each year; Ninety-six (96) hours of Earned-Time Leave each year; Eighty (80) hours of vacation leave after first year; Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund participation; Affordable health, dental, vision, and disability insurance; $10,000 paid life insurance; Optional deferred compensation.

Residency Requirements: Employees of the City must establish their principal residence within forty-five (45) miles of the City of Danville corporate limits within six (6) months following successful completion of their probationary period.
