Training Schedule: Approximately 2 weeks, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
We are seeking an experienced Professional Fee (PB) Neurosurgery Coder to join our remote coding team. This role is responsible for accurately coding professional fee neurosurgery services across Inpatient, Observation, and Office/Outpatient settings while ensuring compliance with all applicable coding and reimbursement guidelines.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience coding complex neurosurgical procedures and physician Evaluation & Management (E/M) services, along with a strong understanding of professional fee billing requirements. Candidates must have Professional Billing (PB) coding experience-facility-only or outpatient facility coding experience will not be considered.
Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier codes for outpatient Professional Fee neurosurgery procedures and Evaluation & Management (E/M) services.
Code professional fee services across Inpatient, Observation, and Office/Outpatient settings.
Review neurosurgical documentation to ensure accurate code assignment and compliance with CMS, AMA, NCCI, and payer-specific guidelines.
Perform coding audits to identify missed revenue opportunities, compliance risks, and coding trends.
Provide coding and documentation education to neurosurgeons, advanced practice providers, and practice staff.
Research coding, billing, and reimbursement issues related to neurosurgery and recommend process improvements.
Develop educational resources and coding guidance for providers and coding team members.
Stay current on neurosurgery coding guidelines, regulatory updates, and payer-specific requirements.
Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to resolve coding questions, documentation deficiencies, and reimbursement issues.
Support onboarding and training of new coders while contributing to coding quality and workflow improvement initiatives.
Minimum 5 years of Professional Fee (PB) Neurosurgery coding experience.
Professional Billing (PB) coding experience is required. Candidates with only outpatient facility or hospital coding experience will not be considered.
Experience coding physician services across Inpatient, Observation, and Office/Outpatient settings.
Experience coding complex neurosurgery procedures and physician Evaluation & Management (E/M) services.
Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifier assignment, and payer-specific guidelines.
Experience applying CMS, AMA, and NCCI coding guidelines.
Experience using Epic electronic health record (EHR).
Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and commitment to coding accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
CPC, COC, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, or equivalent coding certification preferred.
Previous experience conducting coding audits and provider education.
Experience supporting coding quality initiatives and workflow improvements.
