Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing tooling used in a Tier 1 automotive stamping and assembly environment. This role supports high-volume production through hands-on work with progressive, blank, and transfer dies, ensuring tooling reliability, product quality, and production uptime.

Die Maintenance, Repair & Troubleshooting

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain progressive, blank, and transfer dies
Disassemble dies, inspect components, weld, repair, grind, and fit details
Diagnose tooling-related quality, scrap, and downtime issues
Perform in-press troubleshooting including alignment, timing, and sharpening

Machining & Tooling Work

Machine, grind, and fit punches and die details
Apply knowledge of tooling, machining, and die functions
Work with various tool steels, coatings, and materials

Pressroom Support

Support die setup, pilot releases, timing, and feed adjustments
Work directly in the pressroom to minimize downtime
Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams

Safety, Quality & Housekeeping

Comply with company policies and OSHA requirements
Follow lockout/tagout and die handling procedures
Maintain clean and organized work areas
Maintain regular and reliable attendance

Qualifications

Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and diagrams
Experience with complex progressive and transfer dies
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

Education & Experience

Completion of a technical school program or four-year Tool & Die apprenticeship preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Frequent standing, bending, and use of hands. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to noise, oil, compounds, and moving mechanical parts.
