Job Overview
ADEPT Technologies is seeking a Buyer/Planner to manage companywide purchasing for production and administrative needs while coordinating material buys with the master production schedule and customer due dates.
This role is ideal for a hands-on purchasing professional who understands manufacturing, supplier management, MRP/ERP systems, and the importance of having the right material available at the right time and cost.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage all internal purchasing, including production materials, outside services, tooling, equipment, office supplies, and administrative purchases.
- Solicit and compare supplier bids to obtain the best overall value based on cost, quality, delivery, lead time, risk, and service.
- Create, issue, revise, track, and close purchase orders using the company's ERP/MRP system.
- Plan and schedule material purchases based on customer due dates, job priorities, bills of material, inventory levels, supplier lead times, and the master production schedule.
- Review MRP demand and take timely action on required buys, shortages, reschedules, cancellations, and changing production priorities.
- Track open orders, confirm supplier commitments, expedite late or critical material, and communicate risks before they affect production.
- Maintain accurate purchasing data, including supplier information, pricing, lead times, order quantities, and delivery dates.
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships and monitor performance for quality, delivery, pricing, and responsiveness.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Receiving, Finance, Quoting, and Program leadership to resolve material and supplier issues.
- Support purchasing for machining, cable and wire harness assembly, box builds, product integration, hardware, electronic components, raw material, and special processes.
- Ensure purchases comply with drawings, specifications, revisions, quality clauses, customer flowdowns, traceability, and approved supplier requirements.
- Identify cost savings, alternate sources, quantity breaks, lead-time improvements, and opportunities to reduce shortages, premium freight, and excess inventory.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three or more years of purchasing, procurement, material planning, or production-planning experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience creating and managing purchase orders in an ERP/MRP system.
- Working knowledge of bills of material, inventory, supplier lead times, production schedules, and material planning.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications, part numbers, and revision requirements.
- Strong negotiation, organization, problem-solving, communication, and follow-through skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
Preferred
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, operations, engineering, or a related field.
- Purchasing experience supporting machining, cable and wire harness assembly, box builds, or product integration.
- Experience with JobBOSS2 or a comparable manufacturing ERP/MRP system.
- Experience in an AS9100- or ISO 9001-certified aerospace, defense, or precision-manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of ITAR, DFARS, customer flowdowns, counterfeit-parts prevention, and material traceability requirements.
Desired Professional Traits
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accountable
- Proactive in identifying shortages and supplier risks
- Focused on total best value—not price alone
- Calm and effective when priorities change
- Ethical, discreet, responsive, and committed to follow-through
- Team-oriented and comfortable working across departments
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk through production and receiving areas as needed.
- Ability to use a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
